My mother gave me this thingy-ma-bob. It was my great aunts.
It is similar to the one pictured below, but a bit more decorative and marked Sterling with fancy scripted markings of RW with a lion in the middle. Can't find the maker online so I guess I'll go to the library. Anyway, it took me the longest time to figure out what it was. (I have two actually, a slimmer version) What do you think it is? My sister-in-law steered me in the right direction.

Is it a shoe scraper? For when you come out of the field with muck on your shoes?

All good guesses, but no.
 It's about 2 inches long, btw. And there is a slit at the bottom, not sure that shows up too well. |

Is it a shoe horn? I don't know but if you don't tell me soon I won't be able to sleep............and then I'll have to explain to my T why I couldn't sleep............. "Well, it's like this, 2 inches long with a slit in it...................."

The thread went through the slit thing.
 And the hole at the top was to attach it to a chatelaine, which was hooked to a belt. The woman wore it around their waists and hung everyday items from it.
