So I have been drinking filtered tap water....and I keep getting nauseous, I cannot afford enough bottled water to last met the whole month usually. when I avoid the fitered crap for a day and just drink bottled water I am fine if i'm not extra stressed which can also interfere with my appetite. But I get thirsty and I'll get a cup of the filtered tap water if there's not a bottled water on hand, but even that is getting me nauseous lately. The bottled water is fine but the filtered tap water is making me feel sick like its not filtering out all the toxins or whatever. Just not sure what to do...I need water, I mean I walk and take buses places so I have to be hydrated for those ventures....but I cant take the constantly feeling sick because I cannot consistently afford bottled spring water or whatever. I mean earlier today I almost threw up a few minutes after having some water out of the refrigerator filter water thing and its just really annoying me lately I shouldn't have to hold back vomit to get a drink of water I don't think, yet that's pretty much what happened....drinking a beer made me feel better, to me that says something about the water quality.

Have you tried getting a 0 water filter? I think that's what it's called. It's supposed to filter everything out. I use a Brita pitcher and unless it's very clean, I have trouble with it too.

I can understand your concern and the need for better water, especially if it is amaking you sick.
Perhaps trying a different filtering system. There are several kinds out there and some work better than others. Something to look into, check ratings, and see if there is another kind whether it be a pitcher system or one that attaches to the end of tap/faucets themselves that are less expensive than an under the sink system let alone a whole house system, but might work better than the one you are using for better quality water. I hope you find a solution and what works best for drinkable water that won't make you sick. Water is too important; worth looking into. ![]()

Just wondering... Have you tried to bottle boiled water and leave them in your own fridge to drink the next day? You shouldn't have to buy bottled water. Is your municipality low on water? I also have gotten used to drinking boiled water from a cup without the tea or coffee.

The thing with most bottled water is that it's just filtered tap water also unless is specifies that it's spring water. Just that their filtration system might be better than yours.
I drink the filtered water out of my refrig which tastes so much different than the water out of the faucet. The coldness of the water helps get rid of taste, but I also put it in a hot pot with a tea bag & then fill a container with tea to pour over my glass of ice. That really helps with the taste. The worse water I ever drank (& it happened to be just after I was pregnant) was at my great uncles farm in Nebraska. They managed to run the house well through sulfur so it had a horrible sulfur flavor while the well for the cattle was pure & wonderful.....that taste couldn't even be hidden with tea in the water.....YICK!!!! I hate tap water after it's sits & gets warm also even with the filtered water ice cubes from my refrig....so I only use tap water for cooking when it will be boiled or for the hot pot where the water is boiled also. But I refuse to buy bottled water that's only filtered tap water also feeling that all I'm doing is buying what I could make myself.

I may look into that...but yeah basically just trying to figure out how to budget money a bit better in general and I know a fair amount goes to bottled water so I'd probably have more to work with if I could cut that cost. SSI isn't much so trying to make it stretch further on the bright side I'm not usually out of money half way through the month like some people I know/have heard of on disability so I must be doing something right. But yeah we have a refrigerator with a thing to get ice and water and it supposedly has a filter but maybe its just not a very good/efficient filter...it tastes a little better than getting it straight out of the tap, but that's about it. Also sometimes ice cubes melt onto the tray underneath the water/ice spout and leaves a white residue....and having grown up mostly living in more smallish towns/country areas I don't recall mineral build up from water being quite that color or consistancy...so that's also a little disturbing and leads me to believe its more than just mineral residue.

Lol or if I could convince my mom or someone to drive me up to the mountains so I can fill some jugs with mountain water...a lot of that is well water and the ground filters it...and not much change of weird chemicals like trace amounts of meds/drugs, chlorine or whatever they put in to disinfect water unless you specifically start flushing or putting that stuff down the drain where it can get into the septic system and eventually the water.

It's called the Zero Water filter. I think you can get either a pitcher, or a faucet attachment, but it's supposed to be the best one. I want to get one too.

Well I do drink quite a lot of tea and coffee...probably more tea, and don't feel sick from that so boiling does probably help. I doubt I could drink hot water plain....of course black tea, green tea or coffee can somewhat counteract the hydration cause of the caffeine but luckily I like herbal teas so I can drink those and be just as hydrated as having water. for the time being it would probably work to just rinse out a milk jug and fill it with some boiled water....after it cools off of course. And I don't think there is any issue with low water....more water grossness, but there is no shortage of said gross water.

Lol if I was on that farm I think I would have drank from the cattle well, sulfur isn't really toxic but it sure can taste gross I have been to a few hot springs which smell quite strongly of it I get used to the smell but I hate getting it in my mouth. I used to drink a lot of aquafina, until I learned what 'purified water' meant and that its essentially just filtered tap water...also doesn't really have mineral content but they sometimes re-add stuff artificially. I like the water with high mineral content which the imported Scandinavian stuff certainly has and tastes amazing.

I'm wondering if you happen to have bacterial growth in your filter, especially if the filter is old. That's just where my mind went first when you mentioned that boiling helps.

I live on a farm so I have a well for my water. The water quality is terrible! It's full of iron and sulfur, so it tastes horrid and stains everything. None of the things I've tried in the house to filter drinking water take out the sulfur and iron. It would mean spending thousands of dollars for whole house filtering systems (yes, systems - one for sulfur, one for iron!
![]() My solution is to buy gallon bottles of water from the grocery store. I only use it when I want to drink plain water. I use the well water for cooking, coffee, tea, etc. I suppose I'm buying plain old city tap water from the store, but I only use one or two gallons a month. I figure that's not too bad. |

Hellion, I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but I don't know if everyone knows about this...I have drunk bottled water since it appeared on the scene in the '80's. I take a bottle of water with me wherever I go. The way I buy it is in flats...a flat costs between $3 and $6. It costs a small fortune to buy single bottles, but a flat is pretty economical. Have you tried buying your water in flats?
