I work very, very part time at a local yarn shop. I help teach people how to knit socks. Fairly cool. I enjoy it. About a year and a half ago I had been in the hospital and when I got home, I was shocked to hear that people had been talking about me behind my back for quite some time before I went into the hospital. I had been working much more, and that was when my hours got taken away to just the few I have now. So fast forward to last night. I was in the hospital and got home about three weeks ago. I know that when I was spending so much time at the shop people were talking about me so this time I decided to make myself unavailable. And you know what they did? They still talked about me. I got a scathing message from one of my "friends" telling me all about it and telling me not to talk to certain people because they were spreading rumors. And while we were at it, when could she expect the "old Cammie" to return because she didn't like the one I had become. I felt like someone had rammed a knife in my back and then she just twisted it home. She had the nerve today to message and ask me "Are we still talking?" I am confused, hurt, and really unstable at this time. I just want a quiet normal stable life. Why do other people always get in the way????

Although you found this insulting, it might be an indication that she cares.

Unfortunately, that's just how work is. People talk. I overhear coworkers talk about other coworkers, even managers talking about other managers. Not sure how to avoid this except to switch jobs, but people still talk.
