1. Armed Forces Day or Memorial Day - As many of you know, Memorial Day is just around the corner. And ever since I watched a WWII movie around that very occasion, it's become a holiday that i associate with WWII and Armies in General (even though it's mainly about mourning). Part of that association still exists, but, after becoming better aware of the occasion known as "Armed Forces Day" (which is also a May holiday and happened a few days ago), I'm a little lost about how i should do things now. Should i continue to associate Memorial Day with WWII or should Armed Forces Day be the only holiday that i associate armies in general with? And yes, i am well aware of Veterans' Day, but, while i do recognize the significance of that holiday and at least try to observe it in that light, every year, it feels overshadowed by Thanksgiving.

2. My "Last Day of School/Graduation" Mood - I'm a little bit lost on how i should get into the "Last Day of School/Graduation Mood" this year. Up until my school years of 2003-2005, I have always known June to be the month when the usual School year ends. But when my family moved to Alaska in 2003 and stayed there until 2005, i quickly got used to the idea of it letting out the week before Memorial Day, in May (in fact, this is currently the week when the school year ended up there). However, when my family moved to Virginia, things went back to the School year ending in June, which means that became the month in which i finally graduated from High School. As a result of this, i went back to seeing June as the main "End of the School Year" month, with May being very close to that area. But when I shopping at a Wal-Mart for this month, I saw a Graduation cake on sale, and that got me wondering. I looked up the event calendars for both the School Districts that were in the area i lived in and, apparently, they both let out this month (a fact that i may have learned about a while back and just forgot about). To put it simply, now i'm not sure what to think, though this does make me wonder why i always got out in June when i was going to school in California, yet the students here get out in May.
Thanks for this!

Hi pinnamed. For me Memorial Day has some sadness as I remember friends and family that are no longer here with us. But it is a remembrance day.

School lets out at different times for different states.

Have a good weekend.

1. I can understand that, but, like i said in my post; ever since i watched a WWII themed movie during the Memorial Day Time Frame, War and Armies have been what i associate the holiday with. But with there being a holiday specifically for the aforementioned stuff, I'm in a bit of a loss now.

2. I'm well aware of that, all i'm saying is that the fact that school lets out in May in this part of California makes me a bit befuddled, since every part of California I've gone to school in let out in June.
