For those of you who live in apartment buildings, what are the pros and cons of your building? It can be about the structure, people, amenities or lack of, etc.

I say specific to your building, because even though I'm sure most have thin walls, there's other things about living this way.

For me:

Pros:

Good manager
Semi-secure building
Conveniently located via walking distance to things like stores, bank, etc.
Repairs are done pretty quickly, most of the time
Laundry, but the machines aren't great and break down a lot

Cons:

Acoustics make it like a giant echo chamber, you hear every slam or footstep
It's old, built in 1971
No guest parking on site
No street parking for guests or a second car (only 2 bedrooms get a tandem spot to park 2 cars)--meaning not enough of it or too many restrictions
High turnover
Remodeling apartments every time someone moves out, making it like living on a construction site
Gardeners use leaf blowers to blow dust on your car
Maintenance guy does sub-standard work

Unfortunately, the cons outweigh the pros.

You can say how long you've been there, if you want to move, and anything specific about your UNIT also if you want.

I wish I had more daylight, but I face north and the other building is blocking most of the light.

Pros:
It's a large unit and I can walk back and forth for exercise.

Cons:
Downstairs neighbors blasting noise ALL THE TIME.
No laundry
Stairs and I can barely take them anymore.
No bathtub
No intercom system
Postal Carrier won't deliver parcels
Did I mention the thrashing NOISE NIGHT AND DAY EVERY DAY? EVERY NIGHT? HOW IT GRADUALLY GETS LOUDER AND LOUDER?
No kitchen cabinets.

Pros: close at hand management, clean, cheap, yards kept up, "some" good neighbors, watchful neighbor across the hall (watches for packages, our safety)

Cons: 2 families upstairs don't speak English and so they cannot use the washer/dryer on a set tenant schedule, landlord tends to fill apartments to anyone, we've had things stolen (ups deliveries) and "those" neighbors are long gone...oh, and annoying people upstairs play their music loud and their small children look in our windows, cannot speak or understand English so it's a mute point...so damn annoying!!!

Pros: Attentive landlady. Quick for repairs. Quiet neighbors in my building. There's a city noise ordinance, being enforced this summer, this neighborhood is good. A $21.00 electric bill this month. Tall ceilings, hard word and linoleum. Plenty of space. Spacious design. Off street parking space. On street parking if needed. Bus stop right near my place, just in case. Great skyline for the 4th of July, can see several communities worth. Near various important landmarks, highway, fire house, hospital, convenience store and coffee all in walking distance. Comparative to other communities I'm getting more for my dollars.

Cons: gas heat seems higher than average, she fixed the boiler, so this winter might not be so bad. I've got ants, literally those creatures carry one dead ant and I've traps and sprays, third floor all stairs, offsite laundry, fire house is down the street so when that engine is called, hear sirens, winter needed on street parking with a parking odd/even ban, this community gets the nosesnub by other towns, school district is in state receivership although that has an up and downside-my kids are flourishing,sayin'...because of location in the state it's centrist for 'drug trafficking', according to one site ranked 85th most dangerous place to live in the US using some per capita ratio figure, petty theft can add up too. Most say it's typically not random as far as violence is concerned. That factors in, as far as the place specific list. Sensitive car alarms.

Pros:
Affordable
Has walls and ceiling
Ours has a large kitchen (like bigger than most apartments)
It's 720 sq ft which is not bad for a 1 bedroom apt
Maintenance is free
Every time you renew your lease you get a prize (this time it was carpet cleaning, I want next time to be painting a wall orange)
Staff is friendly
No need to mow the lawn or rake the leaves
Tiny backyard
First floor, absolutely no stairs to get in or out the front door
Privacy fence

Cons:
Every thursday is lawn care and they are really loud and annoying in the morning
Rent keeps going up when renewing the lease (was $485, now it's $570)
Hearing footsteps every time someone goes up or down the stairs and my dog barks at them
Small even though I boasted about its size earlier
Backyard is just concrete, no actual yard
Poor insulation, in the winter it gets down to 60 degrees when we have the heat on at 75
So that means the electricity bill is high
Maintenance never gets there when they say they will, would rather fix things on my own
The carpet stains really easily
No washer and dryer in the home
Walls are textured so you can't put up 3M strip hooks

Pros
It's an older building so apartment is huge
It's quiet
Surrounded by a park
Property management company keeps the place really clean, and maintenance comes within 24 hours.
Pet friendly

Cons
Electricity bill is high
Longish walk to bus stop
No shopping within walking distance
Not enough laundry machines for size of building.
