Your ministry of foreign affairs might be scare mongering and warning, media might be potraying the country as

mess from east to west, people might think it's not safe.

It is. If you go to the non-ATO parts and avoid some tense parts, that's it. And you will got be let in ATO

zones, so no need to even worry about it. Nearby regions might be tense, but the rest is totally okay and you

will discover unexpected.

I visited Lviv, Kyiv, Lutsk, Ternopil and Rivne this year.

So what you will find in Ukraine?

1. Beautiful cities. Especially Lviv and Kyiv. Lviv is slightly "Polish" and "European" in looks and vibe, but

Kyiv is very unique. Wide streets, unusual but stunning architecture.
And even the smaller towns are well kept, there are nice streets, stunning churches and wonderful random

statues and other forms of street art.

2. Patriotic frenzy. One of symptoms of which is girls wear flower head pieces and embroided blouses. You will

find embroided blouses on men too and it is seriously beautiful. You can buy one too, hand made for some 30

euros.
There is also lots of patriotic drawings, graffiti... or they just painted random stuff in yellow and blue.
Also, you can buy lots of patriotic souvenirs. Some hilarious, some nice... some slightly tacky, but these are minority.

3. Food is great. And thanks to exchange rate cheap. Try eating with locals in Puzata Hata... or just any place that offers local cuisine. Forget about counting calories and carbs and fats.
Also, if you enjoy coffee, this is your place. Stop by the street stands and enjoy 50 cent espresso or 80 cent latte. If you feel extravagant, try some of the flavored coffees.

4. Transport might be slightly chaotic to a westie, but it's cheap and you will get where you need. Use trans for the long journeys. Quite comfortable, cheap, fun. Book in advance though.

5. Well the country is in war. So while it's safe, you will feel the presence of it. Memorials of the war and maidan events are everywhere. You will see soldiers in the streets. You can come across people selling hand made crafts to make money to aid the army and batalions. You may even come across people making masking nets. Restaurants have "aid to ATO" donation boxes.
If you feel like it, give some spare chance. They really need it. You can also talk to the soldiers and volunteers and show some support. It will be apreciated.

To be continue and questions appreciated.

Gimme the ticket pls, then I can go. (I'll read it later)

I'm really glad to have found your post, and see that you're doing okay. thanks.

ETA: I've read it all. No.5. That kinda makes me feel bad visiting the place as tourist/curious mind or whatever. Nontheless, you're welcoming the rest of the world to your place. That is nice and makes me go see the beauty/reality of your place. Nice read. *moving my mouth and saying nothing*,,,the language,

Oh! I have a question. How hard is it to navigate with say, only English ?
Thanks for this!

I'm good. The only countries I have any interest in visiting are Canada (eh?) and Japan.

I would love to go to Ukraine. I guess the further east you go the more dangerous it gets. Puzata hata sounds like pizza hut haha, I'm sure it is nothing like pizza hut..I remember Ruslana from Eurovision 2004. I knew it would win as soon as I saw it in the sEMI final. I love Eurovision but no one votes for the UK anymore. I thought our song this year was quite good. I like all the quirky entries, like the Russian babooshkas or Lordi or a yodelling unicyclist.

I did also worry about the morality of going to vacay on war-struck country... but they need money and most people seemed to be happy to see people are not scared to go to Ukraine.

It is good at least to learn to read cyrilics. But people are helpful and Lviv and Kyiv have bilingual signs in many places.

I would visit because I'm interested in history, food & culture. Plus, my step mom is Ukrainian. However, they're not too friendly to the LGBT community there. Since I'm gender fluid (bio female), pan (emphasis is less on the sexual & more on the intellectual, emotional & romantic), my husband is bi & we have a poly option, I think it best to wait until they're more open.
