Does anyone else think ventriloquist dummies are creepy?

My feeling might stem from seeing the Twilight Zone episode about the living dummy when I was very small. And tho I am old now and it doesn't really scare me I still don't like them at all.

Yes they creep me out a lot. Look up Slappy the Dummy, he scared me so much as a kid. I think he was from the goosebumps book series

I don't think ventriloquist dummies are creepy, but I do find ventriloquists creepy.

The classic one is creepy, but who was that guy? with a terrorist dummy. He's good.

Yes, that is Jeff Dunham. I've seen a live ventriloquist act, and it was creepier in person. lol

Same...classic ones are super creepy to me because of their face. I like all of Jeff's dummies except Peanut. It has that same scary face. ::shudder::

@Bluekoi- I cannot and will not watch it even now. I love Twilight Zone and watch the marathons, but I turn the channel when that one comes on! lol

When I was little, someone (we won't mention any names) let me watch The Birds. To this day, I cannot bring myself to watch the movie again. I get nervous whenever I'm near a large flock of birds!
Thanks for this!

No...they remind me of old vaudeville shows, or sideshows...rather fascinating.

I remember watching The Birds too. I thought it was weird, but it didn't freak me out. I watched it recently and it was a bit scarier than I remembered.

I agree, it's the ventriloquists that are creepy. Or at the very least annoying.

Nope. I still love clowns and ventriloquist dummies and stuff like that. Horror writers have known for quite a while now that the best way to scare people is to twist something they like, like children or clowns or ventriloquist dummies, into something dangerous. We can see it with the general psyche about clowns, everyone you meet thinks clowns are creepy. But when I was a kid, everyone loved clowns. Then along came Pennywise and Poltergeist and Whamo! everyone's scared of clowns now.

I think the key is keeping scary fantasy separated from reality in your mind.

It was also because of John Wayne Gacy.

Oh yeah! Good example. For some reason I always forget about him ...

Plus when I was little there was a sad clown picture in my room that I started having nightmares about. That was before the horror stuff, in the early 60s.

I don't think clowns are creepy or scary, but I don't care for them either.
