Or does anyone have one now? Has anyone here had a checkout job? I've got a job interview for a checkout job at the local supermarket on Monday. Has anyone here had a checkout job? I'm not too worried yet but I'm sure it won't stay that way for long...this will only be the second job interview I've been to. Has anyone here had a checkout job?

Me... Have worked and still do (not so much full orders as I now work in the office (customer service and bookkeeping)). But on occassion we get pulled out to help out on the front end, whether that be run register , bag, or supervise.... I also have been a cashier trainer where I helped open a new store and trained the entire front end on register...

Good luck on your interview! I hope it all goes well for you..

I doubt I could do it! -Good luck to you!
I was checking out at Walmart the yesterday, and the cashier told me she had X number of hours in training for the job, quite a surprising amt of training! Anyway, I would be a dunce at the register, I'm sure!

Hi,

I have never been a cashier but good luck with your interview. Has anyone here had a checkout job?

Thanks, seeker1950! I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it either, to be honest, I've never had a job like this before. Has anyone here had a checkout job? (I've never had a job before, actually, just work experience.) That's good about the training!

I think it's very tiring but here in the US, the major grocery store chains have really good pay and benefits.

Did you search for the grocery store here on the internet to see if they have a page about them/working for them? Having a clue who the owner/officers are and where they're located, etc. might give you some idea of something to say during the interview so it looks like you care :-) See if you can think of a question or two to ask or a way you think you'd be an asset to their store(s), etc.

I seem to keep going back to it, LOL.... I like working in the office at the customer service desk more because there is a wide variety of tasks and I get bored easily... and yet there is part of me that also enjoys the mundane repeated tasks involving cashiering and bookkeeping.... But you do get to meet some great people and see all those you havent sseen in years, LOL... but on the other hand there are those crabby, rude, cant satisfy customers as well.. Grin and nod and grab a supervisor!

My son also works at the same store as I and is a cashier. He has been there since he was 15 (almost 18) and he is one of the customer favorites, especially among the elders...

PS. there is great money to be made working in a grocery store.... the benefits are usually pretty top notch, cross training allows for change and career knwoledge, and lots of resources at hand...

Thanks for replying, Perna. It does look like it'd be tiring, but that's good about the pay and benefits. I'm not sure if it's the same here, but it's definitely a big chain I've got the interview for.

I have - they've actually got almost a whole website about it! I didn't check about where the main office is, though, I'll look for that. That's a good idea, thanks. Has anyone here had a checkout job?

Sounds good, SerenitysWave! I quite enjoy doing repeated tasks as well, guess that'll come in handy. Has anyone here had a checkout job? That's great your son likes working there too!

I think the benefits (or at least the staff discount, anyway) for the place I've got the interview at only start once you've been working there a year, but it's a big chain so if I get the job I might be able to switch to a different store once I go to uni.

Congrats!!

I loved being a cashier at walmart. That is until we got a new manager and the place went downhill quickly. I even got to be a customer service manager for awhile but due to my bad habit of bouncing checks I got demoted back to cashier.

GOOD LUCK!!!
