Agreed, Halloween is the very best one.

My number 2 is probably Valentine's Day. I like to send valentines to friends who aren't expecting them.

Number 3: Easter! Colored eggs and chocolates and bunnies, hurrah!

This is getting repetitive so, I will take this from a different point of view; best holiday meaning best vacation...

European river cruise
long distance kayak tour
mountain climbing in Waterton National Park

Orthodox Chrismtas (Nov 7th) - because I get to celebrate Christmas twice
the Winter Soltice because the days then get longer
Remembrance Day - because I am a Vet and the day is important to me

1. Boxing Day (December 26th) - It's a good day to unwind and watch cricket. Also there are many post-Xmas day sales
2. Xmas - I don't particularly like Xmas but it's better than the others
3. Easter - I don't believe in Jesus or God, but it's a day off
4. Halloween - Meh
5. New Year's Day - another year has gone by.

My favourote holidays are related to Indian and non Indian festivals.

Top three would be
1. Festival of lights (Diwali).
-celebrated on the beginning of the first month of the Hindu calendar/ Hindu New year. (Falls between 20th October and 10th November usually)
-is celebrated by lighting up the entire home and vicinity with tiny lamps, lanterns and diyas.

2. Kite Flying Day (also called Makar Sankranti)
-celebrated by filling up the skies with colourful kites, and old folk music of India playing in the background)
-marks the day after or around winter solstice to celebrate the increase in daylight in the days to follow, with colour music and life.

3. Laughter day (10th January).
Not a holiday... But a day when people all over the world, who believe in it and know about it, celebrate it.
It is a day that is based on the science that, expression has an effect on the mood.

1. Christmas
2. New Years Eve. I love staying up all night to count down the hours to a fresh start.
3. Diwali. It's a Hindi and Tamil festival. It's a very tiring day, but there's so much to look forward to.

Thank you for the thread, Anna .
Thanks for this!

Love Christmas but I always feel it comes up short as I've been getting older. The wonder is just fading every year. OMG this is a first. I'm actually complaining about Christmas. Oh, this is one for the you-know-you're-getting-older-list.

After that I like any holiday that is a STAT holiday and gives me an extra day-off, paid. Ones with feasts are always up my alley.

I completely forgot St. Pat's Day. How did I do that when I am 50% Irish? I play all my Irish CD's that week. I always wear green. Thanks for this.

Christmas is the best. Love Thanksgiving. My birthday, too.

Hate April fools day. It's immature to get laughs out of making other people look stupid. And my PTSD says getting scared isn't fun. Ditto for Halloween. Getting scared isn't fun. Don't like the Fourth of July because of fireworks. Ditto for Memorial Day.

Valentine's Day is meh, never had a guy care about me in February so I've never celebrated it. St paddys day is meh too because I don't drink.
