Fighting Inertia: What do you do when you have nothing to do and no motivation to do it? It's my main problem at the end of the day. How do you beat it? What revs you up so you can get past the wall and start moving again?

for me I really like check marks and structure...I recently created a spread sheet to track

Eating
Excercise
Meds
Mood
Chores
ets

can't say that is completely the answer as I'm just starting again...i do know my most productive times was when I was a fairly rigid planner...so I'm trying to go back to that...

If you want a copy I can probably get you something...

Good point, Direction.

Structure is huge, so is accountability.

My job is one that does not provide either.

The freedom has spilled over into my personal time. What Revs You Up?

Oooops. Sorry, I don't have any helpful tips.

Sometimes knowing others have the same difficulty is helpful too.

I going through this in a very big way right now. I work from home so I have found it even harder to stay disciplined. I would much rather sit on the couch, mindlessly channel hopping - or frankly just stay in bed and read (which thankfully, I am able to do right now).

I also like check marks and structure (quite big on this actually) but find when I am in the zone I am in now - I neglect all of that too ....

I have a very dire lack of energy and motivation - it really brings me down.

Sorry, I don't think I helped much!

Winter Rose,

Walking or going outside for a little while to watch my horses usually works for me, but since I broke my ankle I can't go walking. Today it is just too hot to even be outside for a little while.

I love Shania Twain music. It can get me moving when nothing else can.

Hugs,

EJ

I know how you feel! I fight the very same thing. Two things that work for me... sometimes. What Revs You Up?

1. "Get up and do SOMETHING... even if it's wrong!" I heard that somewhere. Getting up and moving, doing anything will start you going. A walk is good! Doing something you like is also good.

2. When I start getting uptight because something needs to be done and "I don't feel like it", I may sit and stew about it but sooner or later, I get fed up with all the energy building up that will turn to anxiety and I put it on "automatic pilot". I don't think about that particular thing anymore, I just slowly start doing what has to be done. Maybe the TV will be on, or the radio... or I'll think about something pleasant. If there's nothing pleasant to think about, then I make it up. What Revs You Up? LOL Concentrating on that rather than what I'm doing will get me through the chore and it's done before I know it.

So why am I sitting here trying to dredge up something that catches my interest instead of taking my dog for a walk and starting the two things I've "planned out" for myself? You got it! Inertia! LOL

Ok, Amber! I'm coming! I'm coming! Let's go for your walk. SHEEEEEESH!

I write a list of things I want to accomplish every day. That helps me stay on track.

When I'm exhausted, (I hate to admit this.), drinking a Mt. Dew, a soda with caffiene in it, helps give me enough energy to finish what I need to do.

Hugs,

Jan
