I wrote this in the "What are you reading right now" thread but thought I'd post it here to garner more input as well as to not derail said thread. Here is what I said there:

Out of the utter most amusement, I decided to purchase said book. Perhaps it'll have more grab and intrigue for me than the "Twilight Saga" ever did. I'm bound to find out as it's next on my reading docket.
Anyone ever read this book? Is it even worth opening up and reading beyond the title page? I already have a copy, so asking if it's worth buying at this point is sort of moot. I don't really know why I was compelled to buy it. Maybe I'm hoping that Meyer can put out material worth a look. Maybe I'm asking for a miracle here. Is there things that even the Divine can't work into a miracle?

Okay, maybe I'm being a bit harsh on Ms. Meyer. I'll admit, I'm trying to be more compassionate these days. I don't hate her as a person, but as a author, she has so far failed to grab me and keep my interest held. Something I find an author should do when writing a good book. I really want Meyer to do this for me. So, I guess, that's why I am going to take on "The Host". Let's hope it does that for me.

The subject of The Host is just not my style. I don't know why there are no replies on this thread, though.

Thanks Christina!! I've started it and it's alright so far. I'm pleasantly surprised actually, and am finding myself enjoying the story as it unfolds. I haven't gotten far yet, I'm only on chapter 7, but it's an interesting take on the whole "Post Apocalyptic World" scenario. Also, the way the "souls" take over their hosts reminds me of a YA series I read way back when called "Animorphs". Kind of the same concept with a parasitic alien race enslaving humanity one person at a time, first covertly and then when they felt they had enough power, they began to do so openly.

However, both stories have a different take on them, as in "The Host", the host bodies assimilate with their alien parasite and the two become one being, essentially, but in "Animorphs" they alien parasite can only control the host, with the host still alive and able to perceive the world through their senses, though these senses are controlled completely by the parasitic alien.

Anyways, I'm intrigued now and will continue to read on.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
