I have been listening to a CD of Christmas choir music over and over again for the past couple of weeks. I think it helps, because it somehow takes me back to memories of the holiday season as a child. These are old songs that I remember singing every Christmas, but you don't hear them as much now. Lots of psychological issues start in childhood. IDK

Maybe it might help other people - possibly different music though.

Thanks for sharing this x123, music helps me too, often it's music that relates to a happy time in my life as you describe, other times it's music that just uplifts me.

Music connects to the emotions and speaks to us in a way words cannot.

I listen to a ton of music every day. It definitely helps me on a number of levels.

It soothes me.
It helps me tune out the world.
It keeps me balanced.
It inspires me.
It brings me back to a more simple time.
Thanks for this!

I went "silent" for a long time, not listening or working (classical / opera singing) on my many pieces. In the last 8 months or so I have completely changed that. I have my music going when I clean and bake. And invariably I'll stop to work on a piece. My music (mostly Sarah Brightman) has soothed me, calmed me, invigorated me and when I successfully sing a piece, the adrenaline and sense of achievement are huge. I recently purchased 3 volumes of rare songs released by Sarah, digital only, so I have them on my phone and there are some beautiful pieces with Gregorian monks. Hubby got me a bluetooth speaker for my birthday. So now my music travels, on full volume, from room to room with me.

Music is very important to me... I find there is a song for every mood, whether it be happy, sad, anxious, angry etc.

I think I agree with prefabsprout that it helps connect you to your emotions, either complimenting the good ones, or working through them if they are negative ones.

It's interesting you should mention Christmas carols. We make a point to listen to them whilst a) putting up the Christmas tree & b) opening presents on Christmas day every year.

Just like yourself, it transports me back to all those happy childhood memories when I didn't have a care in the world. Perhaps one of many reasons why it is my favourite time of year.

I wouldn't listen to them at any other time of year, but it's great they help you.

I have a few go to artists or songs that I use when I am anxious. Outwith that, I go through phases but as I alluded to above they are often tied into my general mood at the time.

Despite my music calming me, I can't listen to it when I'm anxious or angry or too sad. I find it makes things worse.

I have music or 'noise' always playing in the background. I don't feel so loney.

Music always helps me through difficult times. As a musician myself, there's nothing better than picking up the guitar and just singing my heart out. Music that makes me feel good is usually music with really profound lyrics with a positive message. I often listen to Pink Floyd since they're music is calming and it relaxes me. Not only does it make me feel that way, but the lyrics are very interesting to listen to and relatable. Also, Noel Gallagher and Oasis is good to listen to since a lot of their songs have a happy ending and I love their lyrics so much. It's gonna be okay.

Thanks, @prefabsprout , that is a good image. I don't know very much about music, but I'm glad that I took band class when I was in elementary school. I wasn't very talented, but I think it probably explains why I enjoy similar kinds of music today. Swing music is one of my favorites.
