I spent a very long morning at the university hospital being 'assessed' and interviewed by medical students.

I live in a town where the hospital and most of the clinics are associated with the state's medical school. About half the time there is a medical student working with the regular doctor. A patient can request to be treated by a faculty member, but there are always student doctors that observe and question.

I did once... kind of. It was with a psychology PhD student, though. (Not sure if it counts.)
When I was in university, I was struggling with depression, concentration, and severe anger issues. I had no idea what was wrong with me, but in my 4th year, I finally decided to seek help through my university's counseling services to get properly diagnosed. They told me I would get a free diagnosis if I let them use my appointment as a training session for a graduate psych student. Since it was free, I let them do it. There was a trained psychologist in the room with the graduate student anyways, so I wasn't too worried about it. edit: Actually, I forgot... I went to the ER once when I had bronchitis and then developed a severe allergic reaction to the medication I was given. Since the hospital I went to was affiliated with Harvard Medical School, I got a medical student who was in training. The funny thing was, I think the medical student was more knowledgeable than the "experienced" ER doctor. The medical student was the one who realized I had an allergic reaction, not the doctor himself. |

Yes. I saw a psychopharmacologist who asked if a med student could sit in with us. It was actually nice to have a 3rd person there.

have had students when I had my gall bladder out and also when I was hospitalised for a suspected heart attack - both times too sick to care much - they have to learn don't they and they were very polite

I participated in teaching situations with medical students many times. For whatever reason it kept happening to me especially with my previous gyn. I had students present during minor surgery, during gyn test, consultations, ultrasound etc etc I didn't mind as I believe I contributed to their studies so it's a good thing.
I saw that you meant psychiatric. I've never been to a psychiatrist Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
