I've been watching the Dog Whisperer lately, since I have the older dog with escape problems, and the younger new dog who is getting big and in need of guidance! What is interesting, is that I learn more about MYSELF in the episodes than about the dogs! For example, as a teacher, I'm really too laid back and often fail to establish boundaries of behavior with the middleschoolers (causing me anxiety!). I see that I'm much the same as a pet owner. Watching Cesar establishing authority with rowdies is good for me to remember, both with the pets and with my students.
Some people don't like the Dog Whisperer because he establishes dominance, but as a longtime dog owner, I think he's right. What do you think?

I have seen that show once I think but I agree our pets need to know we are the boss.

I completely agree!

We must be the leaders in the pups' pack....definitely. It will bring about household harmony and they will have much more respect for you in the long run. When they know what is expected of them, they are more likely to produce those expectations more often! (sounds like kids too eh? LOL)

Hugssss and good luck with the training!

Yes...I just heard him say, "Stay calm and assertive!"
A good thing to remember as I deal with both doggies and students! (I won't go into the men I've known! Dog Whisperer...)

Seeker,

I agree the owner should be dominant -- wolf pack mentality.
