Any of you listen and watch ASMR videos to lessen anxiety and fall asleep faster?
  • If yes, what do you normally play on youtube? What sounds help you the most?
  • If no, then would you ever consider using it as a tool?

If you are new to the concept, here is a description from Wikipedia:
Quote:
Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) signifies the subjective experience of 'low-grade euphoria' characterized by 'a combination of positive feelings, relaxation, and a distinct static-like tingling sensation on the skin'.

It typically begins 'on the scalp' before moving 'down the spine' to the base of the neck, sometimes spreading 'to the back, arms and legs as intensity increases', most commonly triggered by specific acoustic and visual stimuli including the content of some digital videos, and less commonly by intentional attentional control.[1][2]
I am regular on ASMR channels and at this moment, I am listening to one. For some reason, I like tapping, rubbing, wood/metal ear picking, blowing, brushing, and some whispers but only if the language is foreign (I prefer Korean the most). Each video eases my severe anxiety MIs and that, in turn, helps me take fewer pills. So tell me what you think and if you are a fan; feel free to discuss the topic.

Oh, and ASMR is not a sexual thing. I have no idea why some people keep thinking that. There a few requests made by a small minority I heard, but it is not a common practice as a whole. So take what you hear with a grain of salt.

Sounds interesting, but would it likely trigger my mania?
Thanks for this!

Have tried it but not had the best of luck. I like it when I'm not trying to sleep though.

From my own experience and others input, it does not trigger a manic episode. It just leaves you in a tingly, blissful state. Usually, people fall asleep to it, or they play it to soothe anxiety. Someone's mood can be lifted up, but not in a harmful way. You will need to explore what will cause the ASMR sensations. Everyone has their own preferences. I dislike crinkling of things and wet noises, so I avoid it, but someone else out there may love that.

Also, on each video, there are plenty of comments on people's opinions on how they feel at the moment.

I am glad that you like it at least! Even if you did not fall asleep to it.

I'm bringing back this thread, because I love listening to ASMR. It's a bit like white noise for me, I put it on in the background and it helps me relax. I normally listen to scratching and tapping noises, and some soft-spoken videos. Ear picking and strong accents or foreign languages are great, too.

I'm always interested in finding new channels, too. Right now I'm listening to Miniyu, a Korean ASMRtist.

I had never heard of it before so I watched some videos. To me, the sound is very irritating. Is that an odd reaction?

I don't get the ASMR reaction from these "typical" means, and in fact most of the sounds people use annoy me. Sometimes certain parts of a song can do it to me, but it's very rare. I can only think of one example in fact. I find some voices of friends current and past very soothing and could probably fall asleep to them, but I don't get the ASMR reaction from them.

I love ASMR!
Especially I like tapping and scratching books. When people show their self care products, what's in their bags, I watched some showing various teas as well. Ear massage is good, too. And I like roleplays of all kinds (except for doctor roleplays - can't understand how a visit to a doctor can be relaxing, I'd get panic from it).
I don't watch very often but from time to time it can be very relaxing.

Not at all, what triggers one person's ASMR can trigger another's misophonia. There are a lot of different kinds of ASMR, but stuff like lip-smacking tends to be love-it or hate-it. It might be that it's just not for you, and that's fine!

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
