Yes, it's perfectly okay to say that, I checked. Here's other phrases you might wanna use:

"Ramadan kareem" (which means "have a generous Ramadan") or

"Ramadan mubarak" (which means "have a blessed Ramadan").

The sun's longer and it won't be easy this year or so I've learned. I don't know what else to say, I don't have a Muslim friend or co-workers, never had any. If anyone wants to share something, I'd be happy to educate myself more on the subject.

Ramadan mubarak

My neighbourhood is inhabited by a great many new Canadians; my building by many Muslims. Each night of Ramadan my building and neighbourhood come to life as the sun dips down.
Thanks for this!

Ah yes, Ramadan, where so many ex-Muslims have to hide the fact that they're eating between dusk and dawn to avoid being persecuted by their neighbours and family. What a happy time of year.
Thanks for this!

Fasting will be asking a lot on a human body, I really don't know much about it. There was this picture of a small child and the mother observing the moon in front of a binoculars at an observation deck at some building, I thought the picture was really nice, it came up while I was searching and learning on Ramadan tonight.

Does anyone know already like, what happens in case of dehydration during the day?

Thanks for sharing the nice story, justafriend306.

On here and everywhere. They study their teachings during these holy month, and there'll be a celebration around 20th of this Ramadan, how about kids getting gifts and stuff? As you say, a few on this site that makes them a minority, may not easy for them to come out and share what that's really like. It'd be nice to know the experience from who goes through this though. I'm sure there are many safety precautions, exemptions and what not, I'm just curious and worry about them.

The day's longer, that's what I meant to say in the OP. Ramadan 2016 ends around summer solstice, I just hope ordinary non-Muslims, the government, everyone will be as accommodating as they can be with understandings and by respecting freedom of religion. (China! You suck...)

I say, Ramadan kareem, with the right pronunciation and all that. Kinda makes me feel bad that I'm not doing enough for the world around me. I'm acting so awkward I know, you don't have to be though.

Ramadaan Mubarak to everyone who recognizes this holy month!

I myself have friends, family and colleagues who are Muslim, but its winter here, so I doubt anyone will suffer dehydration.

Justin Trudeau breaks Ramadan with Muslim members of caucus. It feels good seeing any non-muslim leader celebrating Ramadan.

Hey yall ramadan mubarak!! I am a muslim... so i will try to answer your queries if you have any... so in my country (Pakistan) the fast in nearly 15 to 16 hours long... and its summer holiday here... so i guess its a little bit easier this year... so ramadan is the 8th month of muslim calendar based on the moons phases so its a moving event...so we fast from dawn till sunset... during that time no food or water nor any negative or sexual activity is allowed... no cursing or anything like that...so begore dawn we have a healthy breakfast and alot water so that we dont get easily dehydrated during the day... its so much fun honestly... because after aftaar( meal when we break our fast) we get to rest for an hour and then we have night prayer... its called taraveeh... its extra 20 cycles of prayer only prayed in ramadan after the usual esha prayer which we offer at night all round the year... after that kids go play outside because nights are pretty short so its hard wake up again before the dawn so people sleep after dawn usually during summer ramadan.... when ramadan ends the new month shawwaal starts... the first three days of shawwaal are known as eid ul fitr... On eid elders give us money as gift and sweets... there are soo many feasts in our families... we meet our friends... and ecxhange gifts... i guess you can get the gist of it... and here is a link... if you watch it you will understand abit more bout ramadan...
.... and i will try to answer the questions about ramadan if anyone has them...
Peace

how do you cope in the heat during the day with nothing to eat or drink?

Before i tell you the purpose of fast... i will say that a normal human body can survive without food and water for quite a long time for atleast three days... so its not that human body will malfunction if its not provided food or water for half day or so... rather there are alot of scientific benefits of fasting such as helping in eliminating cancerous cells from the body etc... but the question is what is the spirtual reason for fasting...even though the body can survive for this time period without eating and drinking because of the meals before and after the fast....so from the spirtual point of view fasting is not just about not eating or drinking its more about refraining one self from negative habits of ones life and to show the best character of oneself... its more about getting connected to the higher consciousness, the Creator by connecting with the created by empathizing with them through thirst and hunger... when we start feeling thirsty or hungry after 10 hours of fasting and there is still more time to go... at that time empty stomach makes us think about the suffering humanity... the little kids in africa who havent eaten since days and those immigrants from the lands that are being bombarded, stranded in the middle of sea or that old man in the street curled up in a corner almost unseen who havent eaten a single meal till his stomach is full in years let alone nutrient sufficient diet ... thats when epiphany dawns over... when we taste the 100th part of their hardships and thats what urges us to help them with words and actions... thus connecting ourselves with them... even if its done on a small scale like sharing our after fast meal with that bright eyed, goofily smiling girl dressed in rags sitting outside the park, not turning up our nose at the sight of her dirty hands rather accepting her and loving her as a human being... thats the purpose of the fast... to seek nearness to Allah the Creator... by loving and caring the created...because one can love God by worshipping privately in their dens... but to obtain God's love we have set our frequency with ones who less blessed with the materialistic world...for God loves those who love his fellowmen as God dwells among His people...
The fast is during the day so that we could only do neccessary activities such as our jobs etc with the little energy we have while keeping ourselves from negativity by asking God to get us through day as He wills and when when the sun goes down... in darkness of the night we could worship and find the light of truth and talk to God about even the smallest things that bothered us or our smallest desire even if its about eating our favourite candy... because i feel that at night i am more awakened... sitting alone pondering upon my own existance makes me feel the presence of higher conscience more clearly...
I hope i have answered your question i did try my best to do so... sorry for this long post... and pardon my english please and if have any other question feel free to ask...
Thanks for reading. Peace.

I've mentioned before how wonderfully varied my neighbourhood is. It seems my whole apartment building is having pot luck each evening. How very great to be part of it all. Thank you.
