Exactly that: bravery. xD To me, being brave is to be brave. I dunno... seems self-explanatory to me. I think bravery is fighting against adversity.

Bravery is doing what you have to do in spite of obstacles in your way.

I look at bravery as doing something that is beyond ones normal capability & out of the norm for the person. Doing something beyond ones comfort zone but force ones self to do whatever it is anyway. Different for different people. What is brave for one may just be a normal part of another's life.

True bravery to me is a soldier who has been injured hanging in there to help the rest of their group to escape a bad situation or even one that gets killed saving another's life.

Or the lady that was driving behind my H's car when he rolled the car & our daughter was thrown out of the car on the freeway & the lady stopped & picked up our daughter until the paramedics got there.

Or a woman who escapes an abusive marriage & restarts life all over again....like "sleeping with the Enemy" movie.

Honestly I think for some, just getting through their day can be considered brave.

having the courage to face your fear and do what has to be done, despite the fear.
an example...my X husband used to be a police officer, we were out on a date with another police officer and his gf. came upon a car accident, one car had been pushed off a bridge into the bay. my X and another officer who came to the scene, jumped off the bridge and attempted to save the driver. he didn't even think twice about the decision to go over the bridge. I thought that was a pretty brave thing to do, risking his own safety to help a stranger. the outcome was not positive however.

To me there are the obvious forms of bravery like a soldier in battle or a firefighter going into a building to rescue someone. But I also believe bravery can be in the little, not obvious things. I believe we overlook those people who are not so obviously brave. The ones that face life head on, overcoming every day obstacles.
Thanks for this!

I got called brave a while back but refuted it, to me bravery is when you are scared but do something that scares you anyway because you feel it must be done (on the occasion I was called brave I wasn't scared so it wasn't bravery to me).

A lot of these other explanations have got me thinking about the wider meaning - good question!

bravery is: when one is in the presence of a real danger, and chooses to stand, to act, despite any personal peril.

bravery is: to face imagined fears, trembling tho' one might be, and press on.

bravery is: enduring the unendurable, rather than turn and run, or die.

What does bravery mean to you?
