I got an out of the blue call to come in for a job interview, last week, from an agency that I'd applied to last year. They were reviewing resumes that they had on hand, because they're recruiting, and wondered if I was still interested. I said I was.
It's for a one year internship to train to become a community support worker working in an agency that provides mental health services to homeless and low income women. It would be a total career 180 for me, but I think I'd enjoy it. I'm kind of excited about it. splitimage

Make sure you mention your volunteer work, how much you've learned, and the satisfaction you receive from helping others who are disadvantaged.

Thanks Everyone,
Well the interview was weird. It wasn't like any other interview I've ever had. They didn't ask me very many questions about experience, other than my volunteer work on the constituency council. Instead it was mostly a political and philosophical discussion on peer support, the recovery model, and various consumer initiatives around Toronto. Fortunately I'm pretty well versed in that stuff, so I was able to have an intelligent conversation. It was also weird being totally open about my mental health and addiction challenges, but it felt comfortable. One cool thing about the job, is that they run a SMART recovery program every day, and I'd be trained to be a SMART recovery facilitator. It's only part time, but the hourly wage is good. It's not quite enough to support me, but it would definitely halt the drain on my savings. And they seem to be willing to be flexible around my doing the IOP rehab that I start on Mon. I said I could start during Core, but just wouldn't be able to work any mornings. I feel like I did the best I could. So now I wait to hear.
