I'm just fuming. My grandma who is in her 80s was at the YMCA and someone broke open her locker, took her car keys and wallet , and stole her car. Wtf is wrong with people?! Her car was a lease so I'm wondering what the dealership will do. Are they going to replace it? I feel horrible for her and she's very upset. Luckily my family went over there to keep her company. I wish I could but my car isn't running.

Just wtf is wrong with society these days?!

That's really horrible. People can be so awful sometimes. Glad your family was able to go visit her.

I'm glad she's alright. My mom got mugged in front of the mall. The guy grabbed her purse that was hanging on her shoulder and dragged her with the car until the purse got off her.

It wasn't found. She's going to the dealership today to see what they're going to do.

I sincerely hope my response will not add to your anger. I say this with good intentions. If it seems like I'm poking fun at you or trolling, please look deeper

The simplicity of the present moment is that, where there was a car, there is now empty space. Such is the fleeting nature of forms in the world of form

Nothing in the world of form is permanent: health, good looks, jobs, money, relationships, houses, cars, wallets.

When we take these things for granted and hold on to them tightly is when we get hurt most.

Also, what the thief did is really none of your concern, nor is it in your control. You have much less control over the events of the world than you think you do.

*** Trigger warning: *** It's not the car being gone that's the problem. It's your expectation (and resulting emotions) that people should not steal, and your illusion of control over that, that's the problem.

So says Eckhart Tolle.

Obviously it's beyond my control but to say my response is not normal is not sitting with me well. This happened to my grandma and she's left shaken, upset etc. All her belongings and credit cards were taken and yes these things can be replaced but it hurt me to see my gma so shaken and upset. My emotions that people shouldn't steal are a problem?! People shouldn't steal so how is it not a problem?

I didn't say your response is not normal. It is perfectly normal, but it's not helping you.

I didn't say people stealing is a good thing. It's a bad thing, but are you in a position to make sure it never happens ? If not, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. You are hinging your happiness on things you have no control over - i.e., the actions of other people.

It's like you're giving others a remote control with buttons, each of which has a button labeled with the name of an emotion. "Anger" "Jealousy" "Sadness" "Disappointment", etc. And, anytime someone does something bad, they are able to hurt you with their actions.

That's what I mean. I'm not invalidating your feelings. There are no invalid feelings.

Look, all I'm doing is venting my frustrations with society these days, or at least in my area. I'm going to stand up to my right to be pissed that others can be so cruel. Of course I can't stop them but that wasn't my point in this thread. Clearly I'm not the police

Respectfully,

You're not her therapist and I do not think this is helpful. It may not be on purpose, but your posts do seem invalidating. Best regards.

To the OP, you and your family are in my thoughts.

Your first two sentences speak volumes. And your need to post a trigger warning to her when she needs support? Really? Please stop.

I understand what you're saying ImmerAllein, and I can see how it can be helpful, but really? Sometimes empathy is all that is called for.

It all comes down to the insurance. Even home insurance should cover this as theft of property

How horrible that someone would take advantage of an elderly woman and steal her belongings when she wasn't looking!!! Some people have no respect for anyone save themselves these days. I'm glad that she is safe, and that all the thug(s) did was take her things. Things could have been a lot worse if they were being more aggressive in their thefts.

Your fury at the thief(s) is well founded. I would be nothing short of wanting to pound them into oblivion if they took something from my grandmother. Our grandparents come from a different time, a time where trust and faith were still a thing. Now a days you can't be too safe and secure anymore.

May your dearly beloved grandmother find some semblance of peace, as difficult as it may be right now for her, and be able to find a feasible solution to the stolen car problem.
