Does anyone watch the show Big Love on HBO? I've wanted to ask here for awhile, but was concerned in doing so because the show centers around a pretty controversial subject. My boyfriend and I have gotten sucked into it and watch it every Monday.

So does anyone else there LIKE the show and want to have a lighthearted discussion about it?

Yep. I watch it and I like it. I think it gets pretty weird when they go back to the "compound." I also think it's interesting how they show the jealousies between the women. It seems way too complicated a lifestyle for me, although we were talking about this show at work and one of the women there said she'd love to have me as a 2nd wife!!

I love this show. My husband and I watch it every week. This season has really sucked me in.

It's very strange, but also very interesting.

How do you feel about Alby? He is really creepy. I'm almost sad about old Roman being in bad shape. Compared to Alby Roman was a good guy.

If anyone is interested hbo has a forum for big love too. It is kind of annoying though because the posts go from newest to oldest. It seems like it should be the other way around. Well anyway, maybe I'm the only one it annoys.

My bf found that forum and we read through it once. They get WAY in depth about what they think will happen. I like to speculate, but not that much lol.

I think Alby is WAY creepy. I don't like him one bit! He's gonna kill Roman I think.

Who's your favorite wife? I love Margene but I like Nikki too, she's so neurotic. Barb is too calm for me I think haha.

I love Sarah's character. She played a real ditzy blond in Mean Girls. I was pretty suprised when I was flipping channels the other day and saw her in that movie.

Anyway I'm glad to find other fans here! I can't seem to get into other forums.....I like discussing anything and everything here cuz I know you guys and this is my home online.

I'm not a huge fan, but I've been watching the show with my parents (they really love it so it gives us something to talk about together) so I got kinda sucked into it. The last few episodes have had me on the edge of my seat a few times.

Obviously, since it's a TV show, it's not an accurate or realistic depiction by which to judge modern polygamy, but it's really interesting the way it depicts a fairly normative family as its central characters. Makes me wonder how many polygamist families there are who hide/blend into mainstream society.

Anybody know how many episodes are left this season?

My favorite wife is Margene I think. Barb plays the victim too much. I know she wasn't in a good position when Nicki came into the family, but she voted for Margene. She has a part in it all too.

I hope they don't kill off Roman, but I think thats Alby's plan. I'm hoping Adeline will step back in and stop him. I love her character btw.

And what about that song Rhonda was singing at the end of the last episode? it was kind of a strange song for the former child bride. She has an awesome voice though. I got a kick out of the look of misery she had on her face while singing it.

Did anyone see the extras they had on? I think it was called Big Love, Big Secrets. It had some real polygamists on it. Very interesting.

I did see that. After we started watching I went through a phase where I was obsessed with polygamists and did a lot of searching online. There's actually a website where they can find wives....its like 3wives.com or something like that. Its a dating site for polygamists! I also found a forum where people could go and ask questions. It was a pretty interesting read. I'm sure the show is far from accurate, but there are polygamists who live off compounds trying to make it in mainstream life.

My boyfriend would joke about finding a second wife until the episode where Bill had to sleep in the basement and all the wives were mad at him. Bf then said "yeah one is enough". Haha, its all in jest. He likes to get my mock jealousy going.

When we were in Sedona, we saw a woman with a long braid and a skirt outside a grocery store and we both looked at each other and said Polygamist?

I'm just fascinated by it. All of it, how they so believe that it'll give them eternal life to be in a plural marraige. To me, especially for the women, that is dedication to their religion.

Ok back to the show:

Rhonda's charactor is so evil!! I think the actress is awesome. Very interesting to see what kind of wreckage she'll cause.

I loved this last episode, where Margene passed the note to Bill saying "I've told them I'm your mistress." Here all these guys thought Bill was "squeaky" cuz he didn't drink or smoke, and then Bill gets to say guess what I've got 3 wives. Still think I'm squeaky? Haha! And those guys seemed to look at him respect!

I see a lot of problems with Barb. She is NOT happy with how things are going at all. Nikki and Margene are finally having more of a voice, and I don't think Barb likes it.

I'm fascinated by it too! I did the same thing as you after I started watching it and I did a lot of online searching. It's really interesting. I agree they are very dedicated to thier religion to live the way they do. It would be hard. Most of the girls wouldn't know differently though. They are spoken for when they are still children.

When I was doing some searching I came up with a site called something like "the lost boys", and it talked about the young boys kicked off the compounds so they wouldn't become competition to the older men. Thats what happened to Bill in the show. Thats probably why he would have such difficulty with his oldest children. he wouldn't have had an example.

Rhonda's character really is evil. She is like Nikki but without a soul. I like her character a lot though. I kind of like Roman's character as well even though he is obviously the bad guy.

Do you think the Greenes will come back? I can't imagine that the show is done with them. They were even stranger than the Juniper Creek people. I liked how Hollis always talked on the phone like he was writing a letter. And his brother / sister Selma was strange. Its obviously a female actor, but Hollis refered to her as "my brother Selma". You would think it wouldn't go with their religion for a woman to dress like a man.

I know!! Selma's charactor just plain confuses me. I think the Green's will definitely be back. They reminded me sooo much of Manson's cult following! The way the women were dressed when they came out and shot Roman. I think thats gotta be a reference to the Manson family.

Its just such a unique show....I love all the elements of it and how different it is. I was shocked at the one scene were Nikki sees Bill and Margene starting to go at it.....WoW!!! Haha....I wonder if Bill Paxton is married in real life, and I wonder if its akward to have all these love scenes with the 3 women haha!
