i love reading and seeing plays. I also love reading about playwrights and the theatre.

Anyone have any good suggestions for good off the beaten track reads?

I'm also thinking about a career change and trying to get a job in the theatre..........

My BA is in Theatre Arts. i love the theatre I've been volunteering with a group in my town and this year got to create a dramatic reading from a novel and direct it for the company at the library. I was thrilled. Hadn't directed since I graduated.

I liked the play Prince Friedrich of Homburg by Heinrich Von Kleist. Thought provoking.

I also liked the book A Baroque Fable which is really a story written from the musical. It's by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. The music is in the back. Very fun and whimsical!

If you like science fiction, read Christopher Stasheffs A Company of Stars, We Open on Venus , and then A Slight Detour. Stasheff is a theatre professor and this series is about a theatrical troupe in the future. Lots of references to theatre works and styles. If you've had theatre history, you'll pick up on it. Fun. Wish he had kept writing this series, but he stopped after three.
