Will be going to Ireland with a friend in April!!! I have never been. Don't know anyone there. Looks as though we fly into London then take a ferry or plane across ocean to Dublin, rent a car, air bnb or hotel? Also does anyone know about any good off the beaten and beautiful hikes?
Thanks for this!

I went youth hostelling in cork and Kerry in the 70's and had a good time. You can find great walking country all over Ireland so you need to do a bit of planning before go. But yeah I don't think it will be super cheap.

I have friends with family in Ireland. Things have gotten very expensive. That said, it is a beautiful country with wonderful people.

There are more places for hikes than I can list, Killarney National Forest and the Burren are the first to come to mind though. I believe the Irish Tourist board website has a list of places ti hike.

I hope you have a wonderful time!

The currency of Ireland is the euro whereas, cos northern Ireland is part of the UK , it's currency is the pound. I would consider going there cos a) you'll get more bang for your buck b) it'll still feel Irish and c) it also has spectacular countryside. Also I hear that Belfast is great.

I was in Ireland just a few years ago and absolutely loved it. A magical place with such friendly, kind people. Everywhere you go will be beautiful. Frankly, I didn't think it was so expensive...not like Paris was, and no more expensive than California is. Have a fab trip!

Wanted to add - I would travel by bus if possible. The rates are inexpensive and you sit up high enough to see the scenery. If you rent a car the driver will be busy watching the road and the hedgerows make it difficult to see from a car.
