Title says it all. What are the best US based charities that help the mentally ill that you guys recommend?
I'm trying to build feedback on my eBay account so I thought of the idea to buy cheap items such as office supplies, books, art supplies, nick nack items, and smartphone accessories such as cases, ear buds, and chargers and post the items for sale for below market value but donate 100% of the sale proceeds to charity. |

Consumer Reports does a "best charities for your money" rating, and there are others, you want to look at what percentage of the money actually goes to the stated goal of the organization vs administrative costs (which should be less than 15% generally).
There are also other places to check ratings. Nice idea btw

NAMI - National Alliance on Mental Illness. NAMI is the nation's largest grassroots organization that works directly with the mentally ill.

DBSA is another national group, mostly they have local peer support groups.

My own opinion is to keep the donations local.
What about helping a local support group? Local mental health association? Sponsor a therapy dog? ANother thing that comes to mind is the mental health ward at your local hospital. Mine relies on donations of hygene items like soaps, shampoo, feminine products - laundry detergent too. |

Sponsor a service dog. They can be really expensive and families with needs can't afford them.

NAMI does very little for housing. Its does nothing for discrimination in housing, unfair bias in employment and higher education.
