I'm not a terrible cook, in fact I'm a really good cook, but my parents are excellent cooks and they think the bonding time is great and they enjoy me cooking for them. My dad is the best BBQer around and he promised me that this summer he'll help me carry on the tradition of a classic BBQ'd steak done right! It might be a little odd for a father-daughter activity to be BBQing, but I am eager to learn the skills of a good BBQer and one day my meats will be just as good as Dad's, and my hope is that when I move out the first meal I'll share with them when I invite them over is a classic BBQ'd steak. I've been quite the proactive cook since last November where I dolled up the kitchen to look like a fancy Italian bistro and cooked an original alfredo dish for my parents anniversary, and now my mom is taking time to show me how to make her favorite recipes. She's been teaching me knife techniques, how ingredients react to create certain flavors, and how to pair foods with wine. I'm really enjoying myself and my parents are enjoying my interest in cooking. Yay!

Big huggs, LL, I have found cooking to be a very good way to express love for your significant others, as well as being excellent therapy.

For me, it's a very joyful thing to share what I've prepared with friends and loved ones. I have some of the best emotional associations and memories over the course of my life that come from breaking bread together.

Let us know how the barbeque lesson goes!

Thanks for this!

That's great. I tried that with my daughter, but she doesn't know how to deviate from a recipe and does everything exactly in order. (She doesn't read ahead to know that she has to preheat the oven, for example. I have to rewrite the recipe to say to turn on the oven first.) I think it might be her ASD.

Still, I taught her my spaghetti sauce recipe and now everybody in the house knows how to make it. (In case I get sick or depressed, since this is my comfort food.)
Thanks for this!

Wow, i really related to ^^this^^. Thanks for expressing it so well. I'm the Dad in this and i remember my boys helping me bbq, teaching them how, secrets, tips, tricks, etc. Seriously, I'm getting all emotional remembering those days. That was some awesome bonding time. Soooo many memories of pool parties with pizza from the grill ....ahhhhhh. (I better stop typing before i cry)

Thanks again.
