Who do you think is going to be victorious in the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor and why?

My money's on McGregor.
Yes, they're fighting under boxing rules and yes, Mayweather is one of the best defensive boxers ever, but here's the thing - Boxers are trained how to box. Mix martial artists are trained in how to fight. McGregor has the raw power to knock Mayweather out and is predominately a striker. The majority of his wins are TKOs and KOs via punches. His style is to win fights with punches. Mayweather has amazing technical skill, and can potentially defend himself, but I don't see his offense as too threatening to McGregor, especially since his last TKO was 10 years ago. With this in mind, Mayweather is used to defending himself from other boxers, trained to box. He's never had to defend himself against someone who will be all out to knock him out, instead of scoring points. McGregor knows there's no way he can outbox Mayweather. He's going in there with the intention to knock Mayweather out (as he's been boasting), not box with him. Here's my prediction - McGregor will either knock Mayweather out (TKO or KO) or Mayweather will keep him back enough to win via decision. |

Two very different fighters.
McGregor is an MMA fighter if this was an MMA fight obviously McGregor wins but this is stand up boxing and that is the only form of fighting that Mayweather has studied his whole life. McGregor is far younger than Mayweather and has a bit of height and reach over him but not enough to really matter much. Boxing is Mayweather's domain but McGregor is not like anyone he has ever faced. Mayweather is 40 years old which does not help him and McGregor is like a little freight train as well as being totally fearless. This is a very tough call I feel like in the end Mayweather's experience as a boxer may do the trick but I would never count out McGregor's ability and heart. For me I find this one to tough to call. Hold on to your seats I think it is going to be a hell of a show.

Mayweather, He's extremely fast and plays a very tight defensive game allowing him to learn his opponent, which then allows him to predict their moves. To us it looks like he's running away but he's not. Also if you watch any of his past opponents talk about it. They say his punches hurt a lot worse than what they expected.

I also think that at this point people are only challenging Mayweather for a payday themselves. not because he's good or because they feel they can win but because he's only going to pick opponents he has a higher chance of defeating.

Having trained in MMA and boxing, I'm fairly confident that McGregor has had to train to prepare for everything in his MMA career, where as Mayweather is only prepared to go against another boxer. I highly stand by the point that boxers only train to box, but going against another fighter under boxing rules, is not the same as boxing. Although I think McGregor will win, and I'm a big fan of MMA, if Mayweather loses it'll be a huge blow against boxing since its popularity is already dwindling and that'd be sad to see as well. I just thought of something - OP should (if he still can) edit this thread to a poll! It'd be interesting to see! |

It seems like he's going to be sticking to wrestling from now on since he just retired for a second time 6 months ago from the UFC.
With his age and controversies, I would be highly surprised if he attempted to make a 3rd return to the UFC after how poorly the last one went. |

I -hope- it's going to be a hell of a show, but I can't discount the possibility McGregor goes all in in round 1 (which boxers never do) and gets a KO. Though I guess that would still be a hell of a show, if short! |

I came up in a time when boxing was king...Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns, etc. The heyday of the welterweights. MMA is eating boxing's lunch these days. For my money, MMA is just too violent. Boxing seems more of a science. McGregor has some cool tatts, though...

Well, I lost respect for Lesnar after he got caught with PCT in his system. Dead giveaway that he was using anabolic steroids. Anyone who uses performance enhancing drugs in a competitive environment is not worthy of respect IMHO.
Besides, the UFC actually went out of it's way to make sure Lesnar could fight despite having steroids in his system. Makes them less and less honorable and worthy of any fighting competitions whatsoever. They don't care about the health and honesty of Competition, why should any of the fighters even bother joining up with them? This stuff is exactly why I don't bother watching any MMA fighting. While there might be honest MMA fighters out there, the guilty MMA fighters bring the whole thing down to dirty levels and forever taint what could be good entertainment.

The whole event has a sideshow attraction feel to it for me...like boxing kangaroos or Russian circus wrestling bears. It makes no sense and will decide absolutely nothing but should prove to be time well wasted for those of us who might enjoy a carnival chuckle with our gladitorial combat. Anyway, after the show I hope the UFC can finally rein in ol' Conor and have him fight MMA with proper respect to standings but good luck with that. Whatever the night's result he'll certainly have little reason to ever knock another head come Sunday morning, that's for sure.
