Hi folks,

The Fall is here and in a few weeks, the trees will be turning colors in our neck of New England.

Many of you know seesaw, who's been a member here since April 2014. She's in a financial bind due to a loss of employment and having her car break down, and really needs some help to make ends meet until the next job. I'll let her explain more if she feels comfortable doing so.

She has submitted an application, which has been reviewed and approved, for a Community Connection Grant from our nonprofit, the Psych Central Community Connection.

I know these are still tough economic times for many people, but I want you to seriously consider donating to this Community Fund Drive. I know that a financial contribution may not be possible, so if that's the case, please leave your prayers and thoughts privately or in this thread.

Psych Central will match dollar for dollar of every dollar donated (up to the maximum of $250; $500 total to the member). Every dollar counts, so even if you can afford just $5, please consider this request.

Donations can be made through PayPal (using your credit card or bank account) to us at:

DONATE | Psych Central Community Connection

Otherwise, send your check or money order (no cash, please) to:

Psych Central Community Connection
55 Pleasant St., Suite 207
Newburyport, MA 01950

Everyone who donates gets access to our exclusive Poohbah Forum, and our thanks for helping out another member in need in our community. In addition, donations are tax deductible as allowable by law, as the Psych Central Community Connection is a recognized 501(c)3 public charity.

This Community Fund Drive will run for approximately one week; donations will close on Wednesday, October 4, 2017.

As always, I thank you for your kind consideration and support.

Best,
DocJohn

I've made a lot of reckless financial decisions lately so I might as well make a financial decision that is actually meaningful and donate.

So I shall donate to a friend in need

Hi all,

Some of you know me, some, nice to meet you!

Back in July I lost my job and had my car break down to the tune of $1,000 at the same time, plus have student loans, car payments, etc. I was okay for awhile but with the car breaking down and regular living expenses, I was late with my September rent. Even though I talked with management before September 1 even rolled around and talked to them after, they refused to wait or give me any extra time. I was almost evicted from my apartment because they wouldn't accept waiting until disability came through (my disability was approved and suppose to arrive today, actually, but it doesn't cover a lot and I'm in between month's rent, I just need a little extra to keep me from being homeless). (Which, BTW, they called me while I was evacuated from the hurricane and our complex had no power either. Also, I lost about $500 worth of food in my fridge because of the loss of power from the hurricane.) My parents ended up loaning me the money to pay my rent, but I have to pay it back today. The community drive funds will help me pay October rent and living expenses.

I did have a savings, but when my mental health went south in 2014, I spent it all, over $30,000, on medical expenses. I was just starting to build it up again as I had been back to work 18 months when I was laid off (my position was eliminated). Things wouldn't have been quite so bad if my car hadn't needed $1000 worth of work all of a sudden that I couldn't put off or I couldn't make it to job interviews. It also takes quite a while in my line of work to get a new job, at least 3-4 interviews for one job.

These funds will keep me from being homeless and help bridge the gap between my unemployment and new employment. I know it's a lot to ask but I appreciate every penny that's contributed. These funds will also help me get my medicare sorted out so that I can get back on my meds which I've had to go off because my insurance ran out and I couldn't afford to purchase Cobra. It's been really rough going off my meds and trying to search for a job at the same time. Literally, without these funds I will probably be evicted and I have no funds for a new security deposit to move somewhere else.

There is hope in sight. This grant will really help me get through October, and I have had multiple interviews with a few different jobs now, and I can foresee that by the end of October I will have found work again.

I really appreciate everyone's help to get me this grant that will help build a bridge through this hard time for me.

Thank you!!!

Hi seesaw,

When it rains it pours, doesn't it? Throughout my life people have come along at just the right time to help me. God only knows where I'd be without them.

I made a donation, and I encourage everyone to make a donation no matter how small the amount.
Thanks for this!

Ruth full (great name, btw) thank you so much for helping me out. Yes, it does pour, at least seems like that. But thanks to all of you I'm getting through this rough time.

Thank you so much for your donation!

Thank you so much, hairball!

You all are so generous! I know it's anonymous so I can't send thank you notes, but please know that your donation is helping me stay afloat and in my place until I get a new job. This fund is really special in that it can be an important influx of funds before someone gets too deep in to get out. I'm so thankful for this drive and for you all.

Bless you all.

I will donate but I have to say how shocked and disgusted I am that in America, a first world country, anyone can be one or two pay cheques away from being homeless, and have to pay so much money for basic healthcare. It is outrageous that people have to "choose" between food, rent or meds. Seesaw, you are obviously a highly intelligent, educated, hard working and smart lady; and I have every confidence you will make a success of yourself. What has happened to you makes me angry. Thank goodness for the kind people on PC and in other pockets of our lives.

You're in my thoughts.. regretfully that, and my wellwishes, are all I can offer. I hope other people can offer something more substantial.
