So today i went to the doctors and we talked about a couple of things i wanted to go over with him. Talking about blood test and donation was great, but when i told him that i’ve been wanting to get a psychotropic test he refused me. At once he told me that they are not accurate and that i would have to wait for the future for a test like this to work. I don’t know how to convince him or make him believe that these tests are necessary. I wish i would get off my psych meds i’m in because they are mostly not FDA approved. Problems about switching meds is what is killing me i need help.

I'm not sure what you mean by a 'psychotropic test.' Can you explain? Thanks

Do you mean psychological test? If not what do you mean by psychotropic test Test for a certain psychotropic? Can't begin to give feedback until I understand what you meant.

A psychotropic test. Gosh i cant believe its that advance is a test that determines which meds are better according to your genetics. most of the time it works but its better than crap shooting.

I think you mean genetic testing or DNA testing to see which meds will work best for you. That test is, as you say, a crapshoot.

I agree psychotropic testing is unreliable at least it was in my situation. what they did was set me to a lab, where they took bloodwork labs. then they sent these blood work vials of my blood to a special lab that did a "DNA study" this is where they looked at my blood under strong microscopes and labeled my DNA markers. then they took samples and added it to various medications to see how my DNA reacted to those medications. this was a very long process and very expensive. After they thought they had the right medication I was prescribed that medicine. big surprise the medication did not work. DNA does not take into consideration how a persons senses work, how their brain neurons and receptors work, how many things that may trigger that person. and much more.

the result was I ended up on the least likely medication according to the psychotropic testing not the more favorable one. why because the more favorable one though psychotropic testing was not the right medication for me, my life style, my triggers, my health problems and more.

my suggestion is just continue to work with your treatment providers. thats how I eventually ended up with the correct medications, I did not get my match through psychotropic testing.
Thanks for this!

What do you mean by all your meds are not FDA approved? All the meds you've mentioned in previous posts ARE FDA approved.

I think you could better help yourself by taking the medicine your doctor prescribed. Your hit and miss approach and playing around with your meds is going to end up causing you a lot of problems.

I know Im not the member you are pointing your question to but thought I would answer..

sometimes treatment providers do go out of the box and use medications not yet tested by FDA. I am on a MS study medication that has not yet been approved by the FDA but is used by many treatment providers in my area for MS disease.

there are many psychotropic meds in use in america that have not yet been approved by the FDA. suggestion watch the tv commercials that are ads for meds. read the fine print at the bottom of the screen that pops up in the middle of the commercial. you will see the statement disclaimer... this medication has not been approved by the FDA, use of this medication is at your own risk.....bla bla bla...

my point usually medications are on the market and in use for a while before they get FDA approval because they are new and being studied on human subjects. the FDA needs the data (statistics/ demographics and complaints from consumers) before they can actually give their approval.

the medication that I am on for my MS is in that use on humans and collect the data from treatment providers, stage before getting the approval.
Thanks for this!
