I am in desperate need of legal counseling for my hair. I'm obsessed with altering my hair cut and color, and yet...never ever am I satisfied with my hair! My hair NEVER looks good to me no matter what I do with it!

I don't know where to start.

I want longer hair, but my hair is short as it is and it grows so thick and awkward that I have to keep cutting and cutting just to prevent looking like doofus, and that's not what I want at work, but with growing out long hair I need to not fuss with it...HOW DO I NOT FUSS WITH IT!?

Do I make a goal and say, "LL, I will not cut my hair until this date in time"?

But what do I do with those awkward stages? Short hair is most susceptible to the mullet phase. I know I want to grow my hair but the back of my hair grows the fastest and it always sticks out like a mullet the minute it grows even a smidgen. So until the top of my hair grows out, I have to stay on top of the mullet phase which means more cutting and cutting. And usually a hair stylist says, "oh, a trim? Let me take three inches off your pixie cut. Now you're bald, but it'll look good in a month."

Really, I need a plan, but I'm not sure where to begin. I need a hair therapist to tell me what I need to do to grow out my hair and not look like a total doofus every step of the way.

Do you know of any hair therapists, or do you think you can take on the role to help me find a hair cut I will actually like and be able to grow it out the way I'd like?

The best thing is, I DO know what I want, but I just don't know how to get there.

Ever since I was a little kid, all I wanted was curly hair. I would like to grow my hair out long enough for a bob that can be permed.

With your thick hair, you can probably have it permed even when its shorter, and just have a shorter curly wedge as you grow it out.

I would cut the back short, perm the top, then reperm in 3 months. Your hair grows fast.

Good idea. I have found something similar that I think would be a good start. Do you think this would be flattering or too butch?

I like that style. Imo, the haircut doesn't dictate whether it looks butch or not. It is more the attitude and personality of the person. Pixie cuts can look butch on some people who are not as feminine naturally while look feminine on people who just have that kind of girly personality. Also make up can make a lot of difference if the haircut does seem butch once it's done. I've had super short hair and also longer hair. Either style can look butch on me because that is just how I present sometimes. If I'm wearing more masculine clothes, then the hair goes with the clothes...

Also on that model, I'd say it looks feminine.

Too butch and once you've cut it that short it's gone.
I prefer the first pic

Thats exactly what i had in mind. Its a way of growing out the top until you can get it all to bob length.

Eta - i dont really look at things as femme or butch? I usually go for a classic or sophisticated look. More audrey hepburn than kim kardashian.
