Ever since I was little, my favorite Christmas songs have been "Go Tell it on the Mountain" and "Jingle Bells". Now that I'm older, I absolutely love "What Child is This" because it takes its melody from "Greensleeves", a famous song from Midevil Europe.

What are your favorites?

I like "carol of the bells" and "Mary did you know" a lot, for the classic Christmas music, even tho I don't identify as Christian. For more fun stuff, "i saw mommy kissing Santa claus" and "Santa baby are probably my all time faves.

Oh, there was a young woman in our UU church who sang "Mary, Did You Know?" last year at the holiday gathering. She had such an amazingly beautiful voice that my mother and I were moved to tears. All you could think to say after her last note died away was "WOW!!"

Just wanted to say that this thread isn't just about Christmas music, so anyone with a favorite holiday tune can post about it.

Oh I almost forgot! I love the Trans Siberian Orchestra's rendition of "Carol of the Bells". That always makes me pumped for the holidays!

Aside from the Vince Guaraldi stuff (Christmas Time Is Here), I like Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer. Ahhh Christmas.

You know, that song was a favorite of my dad's and when he sang it, my mom would hate it to no end. Maybe that's why she left him. Christmas Music!! (Share your favs!)

As a fan of the acoustic guitar I fell in love with John Fahey's The New Possibility: The John Fahey Guitar Solo Christmas Album. Fahey's duet with Richard Ruskin on "Carol of the Bells" is beautiful.

Anyone a "Nutcracker Suite" fan? My mother would always bring me to dinner and then to see the Nutcracker at Christmastime so that ballet has a special meaning to me. It's one of those deeply happy associations.

Any of the songs from that ballet are an instant favorite of mine, with "The Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy" as the ultimate favorite of favorites.

Here is a particularly exceptional version of the "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy". The performance of the dancer was breathtaking and everything a ballerina should be. Though I imagine her poor feet and legs have taken a brutal beating over the years, as any ballerina's have.

That's really awesome. Thank you for sharing. Being in the ballet is like being in the army. People really don't get it. It takes total discipline. Its an athletic sport.

It is. They go through a single pair of point shoes in one night's performance.
