So...my birthday is in April...and finally, I can afford to get the tattoo on my arm covered with something that I like better. When I was 22 I got a huge tattoo on my left arm, sort of as a rebellious act, and a few years later realized I didn't like it so much. I keep it covered most of the time. If I can cover it with something I like better, and something a little more acceptable, I think I could get away with showing it more and not feeling uncomfortable showing it. So when I get back from my business trip I'm going to set up a meeting with a tattoo artist and start working on the design. Hopefully I can get it finished by my birthday. I expect it to take one or two sessions.

I have seen really beautiful watercolor style tattoos that are feminine but not cartoonish. That's what I really want to steer clear of. So many tattoos are so cartoonish, even the so-called "Japanese" style tattoos. I really want something that looks like a painting, like an artwork, and not like graffiti or a cartoon.

I'm very excited about this.

Hi seesaw, I have many tattoos and I've always favored artistically rendered ones. I'm not usually too fond of flash art tattoos. Just be absolutely sure you work with an artist who draws freehand and is open to the type of tattoo you want. Be very wary of not allowing the artist to talk you into something you're not sure about. I strongly suggest you study the artist's online portfolio before you even go in for a consultation. Have fun and good luck!

Thanks, Laurie. I actually have 3 tattoos, and I'm very happy with my other two. This one is definitely a different style, so I have to find someone who is willing to do this style for me.

This is the style I'm looking for. Birthday tattoo

Mine will have to be a lot darker to cover up my current tattoo, but I'm okay with that. And it will have to take up almost a half sleeve probably, but I'm okay with that too, if it looks better than the one I have now.
