My mom’s boyfriend (a surgeon) gave me a car his son rejected. It was some sort of gigantic, brown 70s model used Cadillac. It was a serious gas guzzler. My mom gave it to my grandmother to get rid of it. I didn’t have it very long, so I don’t know if that counts.

Then my mom bought me a 1981 Renault 18i, which was cool because no one knew what that was.

What was your first car?

My first car was my dream car. It was a '71 VW Bus. Beige with a white top. My mom bought it for me in 1982 and I owned it for 12 years until the 3rd time the engine had blown. Had no $ to fix it, so I gave it to this hippie guy my husband and I knew who needed transportation. Last I know of, he's still driving it. I absolutely loved that Bus.

I would have loved a VW campervan. Though I would have chosen the sage green and cream. I love those colours. I'm thinking of painting the front of my house in them. Maybe as part of my midlife? no better make that old life crisis i'll buy a VW and just mooch round the uk in it. That sounds cool.
My first car was a 1964 Vauxhall viva and I paid 75 pounds for it. It was a great little car.

My very first car I owned was a 1982? maroon, manual Plymouth Horizon. Absolutely loved it...until I rolled it! I was 24yo.

A hideous green dodge neon with broken a.c. Summer time sucked so bad when stuck in traffic.

The first car I owned was a Pontiac Astre. It was 12 years old when I got it for $250 in 1987. The tires were bald and the steering had a dead spot between 11 and 1 o'clock. You could turn the ignition without a key. The muffler was held on with a coat hanger and the exhaust wrapped in asbestos and duct tape. Beneath the rubber floor mats you could see the roadway through the rust. The gear shift often came off in your hand. Heck, at least it got me from point A to point B.

My first car was a white 2002 Chevy Malibu. I actually had that car until late last year, so I got quite a bit of use out of it.

My first car was actually a truck--1990 Nissan cherry red truck. Got me around until 1995, when I bought a bigger truck.

My grandfather gave me his 1977 Dodge Aspen, slant 6. I absolutely beat the crap out of it. I loved that car but didn't treat it all that well - lots of neutral slams and foolish behavior in empty parking lots.

My first car was a Dodge Caravan - although I'm not entirely sure it counts as it was a company car, but what the heck it was free - they even paid for the gas. Of course at 24, I wasn't all that thrilled to be driving a soccer mom car. I had company cars for about 9 years, until I bought my first car that I owned. It was a bright red Honda Civic SI. I drove it for 12 years, until I spun out in an ice storm and crashed into a highway barrier. Great car.

First car was a 1992 Saturn SL2 hand-me down. Lasted a good year / year and a half until the breaks locked up on me in the rain and it took out a guard rail.

Awesome car, I agree.

Just before I got married, I had a chance to buy a 67 Mustang, forest green, hardtop 4 speed, for $6,000. Mint condition, my old babysitter was moving with her family to Texas to start a bakery and she needed the cash......but I was saving for a house so I passed on it. Arggggggh!

Mine was...a classic. Was forced to sell it in college for tuition money. I wished I could have kept it and hung on to it until now.

A 1972 Mercury Capri, with leather seats. No a/c, and washer squirts didn't work. But I absolutely adored her.
