Silly question but who here has a 'Bullet Journal'?

What do you use it for? Is it solely for keeping track of your life or do you personalise it too? Art? Collaging? Scrap booking? and of course, journaling?

I picked up one of these note books with the intent of using it as an art journal. I simply liked the pages and their feel. Never did I think it was actually intended for something and imagine my surprise when I discovered entire communities online devoted to them. I am inspired.

I must admit, I needed to look it up. Looks similar to what I do. So in a way, yes, I bullet journal.

Oops...eta...to answer..it's an everything concept. To do, goal setting, progress, expression...

I can't find much continuity to anything I do, so this might be a good fit for me

I watched you tube trying to understand what’s that. It gave me headache and made me sweat. It made no sense to me. Sure I have a planner for work and personal events. And a calendar where I write events on. It made no sense to me to number pages and put days in it when you can actually buy planners? I also draw, one can do it in
the planner or in art journal? I am just so confused what’s the point? None of it made sense. I am missing something
Thanks for this!

Your question is not silly, at all. I have also wondered what a bullet journal is. I've read about the concept, but I couldn't make sense of it.

I had to google "bullet journal" to see what it was. I agree with Divine. I have a planner that I write all my appointments etc. in. It comes with dates and times filled in. Why would I go to the extra effort of creating the same thing? Now, I will admit if I ever lose my planner I'm going to be up that proverbial creek without a paddle.

The article I read mentioned bullet journals are an analogue solution in a digital world. Could it be that folks who grew up organizing their lives digitally are learning it can be done on paper too? This makes me think of a story involving a young man who was interning with me. He was poking fun at my "old school" paper planner. He was proud of the fact he kept everything stored on his phone. A few days later the battery on his phone went dead and he could not charge it. He was lost regarding his work schedule. Battery never dies in my planner!
Thanks for this!

You have made an excellent point, liz. I've kept a paper planner since I was in high school and still do...it's never even occurred to me NOT to use a planner. Maybe that's why the bullet journaling doesn't make sense to us old folks!

Tons about it on pintrest too.

I don't journal at all....no point & I keep my current calendar in my phone. My farm requires so much of my time everything else is worked in around it.

Even things on my calendar are avoided at times because I end up too tired.

It really clicked with me and made sense when I realised what the journal was for.

I am not one to keep my life in my phone. I find it downright awkward. But I am extremely forgetful of things and already manage my life the analog way. But this means post-it notes all over, notes and business cards with appointments tucked under fridge magnets, to-do lists here and there, not to mention the use of an actual old fashioned calendar. Thus, this really seems the thing for me. Also, the act of writing things down seems to make it stick better than in my phone. So yea, this is definitely for me. Being able to personalize it with art and collage is a bonus.

I understand the alternate points of view though. I admire those that ARE able to use and rely upon their devices to manage their lives.

Lol....I need dates & times in one place & art journaling in its own place. Hacibg to sort through everything to find a detail I NEED takes too much WORK. Everything in my life has it's own compartment even though they say women don't compartementalize their life.....I DO.

I do! I discovered how it's called when I already did something similar, lol. But I just use it as a sort of planner, nothing creative (also for lack of time)...just sometimes I doodle things or I colour the nicest things I did in a week, but only in periods when I'm inspired.
I have also on 'official' planner, but for me the difference is that I use it for 'serious' things and I usually bring it in my bag (so it has to be little) and sometimes I even use it in front of other people...instead, I keep my bullet journal in my room and I use it also for writing more private things, little art projects and several other things that I can't write in the little planner or I'm not comfortable to.
I wonder if also other people feel the need to use both an official planner and a more personal bullet journal.

That is a thought, running two journals. In a way I do this. I have an app on my tablet where I check in everyday and write down more personal thoughts.
Thanks for this!

I started one and bought a bunch of supplies to keep it up, but then switched to a preprinted planner. I couldn't draw well enough - it was just too messy and I like organization with tabs and properly drawn boxes etc. I still write in a moleskine journal or on my computer sometimes but not in a centralized place.

Unhuh. Yes, I feel a bit pressured for it to be perfect; especially the lines and boxes.

I got a journal and tried it. It was too complicated for me

I still use an old fashioned paper calendar/planner
