Anyone see the Belmont yesterday? Justify won it going wire to wire. We have an new Triple Crown winner!

It was an exciting race. My cats were not happy with me because I was jumping up and down cheering him on.

I met Bob Baffert, the trainer, a zillion years ago. He seems like a genuinely nice guy. Mike Smith, the jockey, is the oldest jockey (52!) to win the Triple Crown. 52 is ancient in the racing world. He also seems like a genuinely nice person. In a sport chock-a-block with bad actors it's refreshing to see the nice guys come out on top.

Then there's the star of it all Justify. He is so calm, so cool about the whole thing. Walked out to the track like it was just another day. Then came out of the gate in the lead and held it all the way to the finish wire.
Thanks for this!

Yea I watched. I am a Kentucky gal so we usually try to see if the derby winner goes on to a triple crown. He's so pretty...

I wonder if they will keep racing him or retire him to stud?
edited to add... it hasn't been decided yet.

He is such a lovely mover I was thinking he would make a nice stud for hunters.

Oh breeding will bring in way more money. That's why they haven't decided yet what to do about anymore racing. If he gets hurt racing it could put an end to him being able to breed.

My thoughts exactly. I have seen more horses fatally injured racing.....quit while ahead is sometimes the best choice. Besides where does a horse go above being the triple crown winner?

We are on the same wavelength Eskie. How do you top winning the Triple Crown? American Pharoah went on to win the Breeder's Cup, but also lost some races. Justify has never lost a race. Why not retire from the top? And I'm sure he won't mind heading to the breeding shed!

I'm sure he won't mind at all

Can't imagine riding a stallion with that kind of speed....like being on a rocket. Awesome jockey riding him too
