What is the most physically painful thing you have experienced? I'm curious as pain is so subjective. If you share, please no triggering stories. Just the experience. I dont want to upset anyone.

I've always been told having a baby is the most painful experience. I've had 5. Unmedicated was not that bad.

For me the most painful is kidney stones. I've had them 3 times, surgery once. Last time I was in the ER I thought I was going to pass out from pain. I was woozy. I was also looking for something to cut my own kidney out with, seriously. They gave me hydromorph (stronger than morphine) and fentynal. Took my pain from a 10 to an 8. Wouldnt wish them on my worst enemy

A gangrenous gallbladder that almost ruptured and killed me. I couldn’t sit, stand, lie without being in excruciating pain despite getting shots of Demerol.

Hard to say, between the shattered shoulder and smashed collar bone from a bike wreck,
Or
The grade 7(minimum)/10 neck pain 24/7 since I was 17,
Or diverticulitis.

The broken bones were painful but I knew they'd heal, though I still have splinters from my shoulder throughout all the tissue around it and they still sometimes cut into the muscles and even leave bruises. The neck I'm simply doomed forever because of two assaten bullies in highschool. Diverticulitis I wished would burst and kill me just to end the pain.
Above all, the worst pain was realizing that this person I married wasn't in love with me at all, but instead an abusive monster that tricked me. That pain I'm still not healed from and yet allow to continue sometimes. Destroying my trust and belief in her and myself hurt more than anything.

Giving birth turned out to be not that bad. No meds and a big baby, no big deal.

Very painful D&C/biopsy without numbing or anesthetisia. I did couple of small D&C without pain killers or numbing and it was ok. It didn’t work out that great one time. I almost passed out from pain. Everything went dark, they had to bring oxygen and were about to call emergency but I came out of it. My ob gyn felt very bad that we tried it without numbing or anesthetisia

Trying to give birth naturally to an 11 lb. baby. I labored for 23 hours before my sister called in her obstetrician to insist that the dork who was my OB give me a cesarean. I truly thought I was going to die from the pain and the extreme exhaustion. That was 29 years ago and honestly, I never really did totally recover.

Next to that, kidney stones.

After that, a rotator cuff (shoulder) tear.

I'll tell you what was not nearly as painful as many people think it will be - getting tattooed. I have many tattoos and while there can be moments of some intense pain, it lasts only a second and the whole thing is a lot more fun than it is painful.

I had a 10 and a half pound baby naturally. I tore with 2 kids and needed stitches with one.

Funny I say stones and you say child birth. It's so individual.

A huge infected bartholin's cyst (Google image search recommended only for people with strong stomach lol). Couldn't stand, sit nor lie without excruciating pain.

Getting my braces on. The pain was terrible. I’ve had my wisdom teeth out and I don’t even remember that pain. But my teeth hurt so bad after getting my braces on. I couldn’t eat for two weeks. I lost 11 pounds In those two weeks.

Also getting my braces tightened for the first time hurt. I bit into a soft piece of chocolate and almost started crying because it hurt. I don’t know how 7-10 year old kids can handle it.

You are so fortunate. I've never been able to give birth naturally, always had to have c-secs. There seems to be something odd with the tilt of my uterus. I've been blessed to be able to be the coach for 2 friends who did deliver naturally.

I'm curious - did you and your OB know that your baby was so large before the birth?

My sister in law delivered both my niece and nephew at 11lb. Both times they had to return newborn clothes because nothing fit. My niece looked like was about to start walking. Lol
Thanks for this!

Had absolutely no idea. It was funny we had bought all newborn clothes and nothing fit. Next baby we bought all bigger stuff and she was only 8.5 pounds so nothing fit yet.😂

Every delivery I was told that my body was built to have babies because it all went relatively easy for me. Had my last baby at home too.

I’m tall and have wide hips, so you would think the baby would easily be delivered—ugh no!

My baby wasn’t that large, 8 lb 12 oz, but she had a very large head. The pediatrician couldn’t believe she wasn’t a c-section.

I have to say I thought I was going to die. I had taken Lamaz and read books on how to avoid c-section, so I kept saying no to the epidural, but I ended up having to take it at the end because I was a screaming manic and wasn’t able to follow instructions on pushing.

My clinic has nurses and doctors that will do a Pap smear so you don’t have to go downtown to the gyn, but they won’t let me because I tore inside, all the way up (I had forgotten), and it looks so odd they freak out not understanding what they’re looking at

The gyn says it’s not that uncommon, but she understands that they don’t know what they’re seeing.

Yep! When I took my first look at my son he looked almost like a toddler.

No, we had no idea about my son being so big, either. Which is odd, because I was thin and had an ENORMOUS stomach. The OB's kept looking for twins...I don't know why it didn't occur to them that the baby was a single very large baby. And yep, skipped all the tiny little clothes entirely.

Jeez, but that’s a good question.

I have always believed that childbirth was the most painful experience, too. My wife was so drugged for her Cesarean that she was giggling and laughing throughout the procedure and unaware that she was ‘giving birth’ to a child. I’ve never witnessed any other type of delivery.

I’ve a number of most painful moments, I think. I’ve had three open-heart surgeries and awakening in recovery with the pressure of an elephant sitting upon my chest and with all of those damned tubes has always been painful.

But.

Having the ‘remainder’ of my left leg removed in 2014 left me screaming for almost 18-hours. On that 1-10 scale, I was at 10. Finally the surgeon stopped by the next morning and he began Dilaudid. First time that I ever felt ‘high’ taking any painkiller.

It’s the pain that I remember, though.

My ex and I had a friend whom we took to the ER when he had kidney stones. They prescribed painkillers (I’ve no memory of which) and gave him a small mesh utensil to catch the stone. We stayed up through the night until he finally passed the stone the next morning.

I witnessed that pain. I can only, now, relate to that pain, I think, with my 18-hour pain marathon. I am now in constant pain. The only relief that I have is medicinal cannabis. My evening strain usually allows me to sleep. I’m in my sixth night with no sleep, though.

I took morphine for 14-years and it was tremendous. Then I had to go to a ‘pain management clinic’ and the doctor there put me on oxycodone and OxyContin (? I think?) and I felt like a criminal when, after 14-months, I was burglarized and all of my meds were taken. The clinic, of course, had a strict policy of not replacing stolen drugs.

Withdrawal was traumatic. It unleashed severe mania that did not serve me well.

And so I am painkiller-free but in severe pain. Except when I smoke/vape weed. I have fantasies about moving back to California (my home state) to take advantage of the lower prices that have accompanied capitalistic competitiveness in the sale of cannabis.

Strictly a (water) pipe dream, though.

I’m going to read the other replies now.
