Hurricane season does not officially start until June 1st, but we currently have a subtropical storm out in the Gulf. The hubbub on the TV about it has stirred up some "stuff" for me related to past bad storms. My area is in for rain and some wind, but nothing major. Still... memories are bubbling to the surface. I guess that's fitting for Memorial Day weekend.

Thinking of the rest of you impacted by this storm.

My daughter is still messed up about Irma ( me too since I lived there then)

Thus far she said she has slept through it.

Hopefully you won’t have much trouble from it.

Omg. I feel like i havent recovered from last year, and all i did was stay inside, safe and sound, and watch tv. But it was like watching a nightmare that went on for weeks. I guess i AM getting old.

Most of the storm has passed my area, but we are still in for on and off showers and wind today and tomorrow. Weatherman said the winds might reach tropical storm speeds before it makes landfall north of us.

Christina, I'm sorry the storm is disturbing your daughter. Like I said it's bringing back not so pleasant memories and feelings for me too.

Unaluna, for some of us the impact of Irma did drag on for weeks. Don't feel badly if the nightmare seemed to drag on for you. For many it did.

LizardLady, I hope everything passes by and you don't get too much wind or rain... I'm sorry that it's bringing up old memories... hope you can find a way to take your mind off of it. My sis is in Florida too... talked to her last night. She seems to be OK, said she bought something online that acts like a sandbag, without the sand? I have no clue what it is... but she was adamant about not wanting to have to go and sandbags.

Fingers crossed for a calmer hurricane season this year!
Thanks for this!

Hope the wind doesn't do any damage & no flooding even a little. In my thoughts.....we will probably get your leftovers as they move north.

I so hope the hurricane season is not vicious this year.

The weather is just so hard to cope with these past several years. Unpredictable for the entire nation. The devastating hurricanes down south, and we're out here baking after yet another non-winter with almost no rain. Still a drought, which means a summer of horrible wildfires and a state absolutely covered with smoke and ash.

I just happen to be in central Florida so weather is important to me. In a mobile home of all places. But ready to run if I have to.

I don't know how you guys do it. People ask me how I can live in California with the Earth quakes but with an earth quake it's usually over and done with before you know what's happening. With a hurricane they talk about it for days and try and predict where it's going to land etc. that would drive me nuts. Hats off to you guys. I would be a basket case.

Cake, the endless yammering on TV about an approaching storm does get real old. As far as I'm concerned that's why there's an "off" button on the babble box.

As for hurricanes vs. earthquakes, I have the opposite feeling to yours. With the storms we gets days of notice so we can batten things down and get the heck out of Dodge. The idea of the ground shaking under me with no warning scares the bejeebers out of me. Years ago I was staying with some people in San Jose. I was sleeping on an air mattress in their spare room. First night they told me to sleep with my head pointed toward the middle of the room so if there was an earthquake during the night when things fell off the shelves they wouldn't hit me in the head. Took me a long time to get to sleep that night!

I was in the 1994 Northridge earthquake....it lioked like the whole San Fernsndo valley had been bombed with smoke puffing up & big crsters in roads where wster mains had broken along thet the bridge collapse that was my only way out of where I lived heading to work.

I think any natural disaster can be bad
