I contacted (emailed) a health coach to inquire about her services. I asked how much she charges and said that I am low income (so it's important for me to know). She emailed me back saying something along the lines of when she is free, and that she'd love to have me come in to talk. But she didn't say anything about how much she charges. She completely ignored my question.
I have been through this before with a life coach I was interested in about a year ago. The lady tried to pressure me into agreeing to work with her on the spot, and she charged a lot of money. Ugh. (I said no, but it was awkward, and difficult!) Anyway, I will probably not respond to her. But is there a reason why a health coach wouldn't tell how much they charge? I assume because it is out of my price range (I also told her my price range in my email)...I don't want to meet with someone just to waste my time and say "no." |

Sometimes they will negotiate a lower price if you have the need. Go talk to them but be strong in what you can afford
|

But why didn't she say that in her email then? Idk. I may respond to her and ask for a quote again.

I'm pretty sure that she's hoping to get you in her office (or wherever she works), then once you're in there in person, and she's advertised herself and her service, you'll be much more likely to agree to work with her. If she gives you a quote right out you're a lot less likely to agree to it.

She may not go over prices because she is not taking on new clients at this time, period, but there are three schools of thought when giving a quote:
1. Fixed price, no negotiating, can be given on the spot and most of the time this is what we expect but even then some things can still be negotiated, except, of course, the grocery store unfortunately. ![]() 2. When services could vary, they need to talk to you first to determine your needs and income level, then give you a quote based on the services or items you need; they will then provide a quote, which this could be the case for what you are looking into and why she cannot offer one right up front. It varies from client to client. This is often times the case for a quote based on your needs. 3. They purposefully want to develop a relationship or connection with them and to sell more than you need, wanting to meet to go over ALL that they they offer in hopes you will be interested in other things so that they can in person gauge your reactions to "up sell" you the other things than what you are after. It is harder to say "no" in person. It is wise for marketing but annoying when you know you are looking for just a particular service or item. #2 often gets intermingled with #3 even with the best intentions. This is also where 'buyer beware' comes in; it's not just about the item or service, it's about how they reel you in. ![]() I hope you find a coach that is upfront about their services that you like and is super helpful and supportive. ![]()

I already don’t like her attitude and I wouldn’t keep that appointment if I were you. When she asks why you are not coming to her office, say it is because you don’t know what she plans to charge you and don’t want to waste your and her time.

Thanks Tisha. I don't have an appt. yet. I haven't gotten back to her yet either but if I do it will be on my own time.

I decided not to get back to her. Like I said, I experienced something like this last year with a life coach whose services I declined (even after I told her it was out of my price range completely, she kept at me, ugh, so unprofessional IMO!).

I don't blame you. Why waste your time? My gut is on the upsell angle even in a benign sort of intent. You were up front about what your budget is, either there's something that fits or there's not. Nothing personal, it's just business(on your part is what I'm saying.) because then it frees up Your Time to continue your search.

While frustrating I don't believe this is unusual. This is about a personalized service. It is not something more concrete like pricing out a quote on new shingles or a water heater. Goods are relatively easy to provide a quote on but services are near impossible to do so.
