Have you been to the ocean? Which one(s)? What was your favorite part?

If you havent been, tell me what your dream visit would be like?

I have visited the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. I saw an Octopus while snorkeling in Mexico. I've also seen humpback and killer whales while on Vancouver Island. I love the living beings from anemones all the way up.
Thanks for this!

I've seen the Atlantic many times since I lived at the beach for a few years and on trips to the coast from NC on down to Florida. I saw the Pacific when I went to Hawaii. I hope to get to the west coast of the US one of these days to see more of the Atlantic and to head up the coast into New England one day.

I've seen dolphins around my boat at sunset. That was nice.
Thanks for this!

The ocean is my go to place. I get there twice a year for a clue of days. Been going to the same beach since I was an infant.

Have seen the Atlantic from here in Florida multiple times. Also saw it from Ireland. Saw the Pacific when I visited California. Is the Caribbean a sea or an ocean? Have sailed on it several times.

Personally, I like the Gulf of Mexico better than either ocean. The water is warmer and waves are more gentle.

Oh how awesome! The whale thing was recent for you, right? I have been to the atlantic and pacific. I've also been to the mediterranean sea on a trip to Spain. My favorite time was visiting Cape Cod on a family trip, a long time ago. It was so so fun.

I’ve never been to the ocean. However, I’ve seen all 5 Great Lakes.

Yes, I have, but it was only a few times when I was young. As I live in Korea, it's not really much, just dull sandy shores and saltwater. I would love to visit other countries when I get the chance!

The ocean is a very large part of my life. The entire California coast from south to north, and the Bay - I was just at the Bay in Oakland on Friday. The SoCal beaches tend to be warmer; as you go north the beaches are colder and foggier, usually. The coast is magnificent, wherever you are. Also, I've been on the Oregon coast, which was gorgeous.

I've also been to the magnificent Mediterranean in Israel, and to the Dead Sea with the huge salt formations (that isn't an ocean, though, come to think of it). I saw the Red Sea - fascinating because of the ocean life.
I saw the Atlantic from dear, dear Ireland. Poetic. A dream.

My hope for humankind is that every person gets to experience the ocean somewhere, at some time.
Thanks for this!

I lived in So Calif for 54 years of my life. Many trips to the beach. Have seen it from the tip of Cabo San Lucas to San Francisco. The water in the beaches around Los Angeles aren't very clean or nice though you can find some nice isolated beaches that are nice. By the time one reaches Santa Barbara area the water is starting to get cold. I used to camp at El Capitan state beach & would have blue hands after being in the water.

Lol found out the bubbles in the water in Santa Barbara harbor weren't bubbles but small jellyfish....that hurt as my legs got stung before I realized what it was.

I took a huge sail boat with a group over to Catelina Island. Fun to see the dolphin playing around the boat. Also went on a sea plane over to Catelina too. That was an experience as a wave smacked into the plane just as it was lifting off. Quite a jolt.

The Pacific at the tip of Baja Calif (in Mexico) is the roughest spot. Huge waves that is not careful have swept people into the ocean off the beach. The tip is where the Pacific meets with the Sea of Cortez. The Sea of Cortez is quiet, calm & so clear you can see the fish swimming around you....but the beach sand was filled with sand fleas that ate me alive.

I also have been to the pacific coast up in Alaska...walked on the beach around Homer. Very barren even in September.

Only time I have seen the Atlantic was on the long flight over it when going to Rome. Only sea I saw when in Rome was theTyrrhenian Sea when I visited the ruins at Ostia Antica. Beautiful but spent most of the time there touring the ruins with an Italian archeoligist who was restoring frescos & picnicing on the ruins.

Oh, lord, I’ve visited oceans and countless seas.

You know, my favorite might be the Caribbean. Diving deep to swim with hundreds of sea turtles, the brilliant fish among the last living coral, laying nekkid on the bright-white sand. And it’s close to home! (Well, if you live on the East Coast.)

I was born and reared (to give respect) on the West/Pacific coast but my dad and I moved to the East/Atlantic coast when I was 10, I think? We actually were inland, in Virginia, not having the Atlantic in the backyard as we did in
La Jolla. I remember my dad saying, “don’t be disappointed,” over and over as he drove me to my first Atlantic experience. Well, I was disappointed. The beach and the water looked nasty and polluted and, finding my courage, I dove into a small wave and the water was so damned cold; you can visit New Hampshire beaches in the heat of July 4th and the water is still damned cold.

I had snowbird friends that I visited in Florida on the Gulf Coast — 2004, I think. My legs weren’t strong enough to venture even knee-deep into the Gulf but it was so warm and beautiful compared to any Atlantic beach.

So, yeah; love the Caribbean, rather hate the Atlantic. Love the Mediterranean, too.

Big sigh.

I lived for near a year on the central east coast of Vancouver Island and regularly kayaked in the Salish Sea. I often encountered wildlife like seals in the waters and eagles overhead. Killer Whales always scared me but thankfully I got no closer than 100m. I gathered my own mussels or went down to the warf to purchase seafood directly from the fishermen. My favourite thing though about living next to the sea in that area was the thick rain forest.

Yes, both Pacific and Atlantic. In different areas. Also some seas. Baltic, Black and North Seas. Also English Channel.

I've seen most of the New England coastline from Bar Harbor to Cape Cod and the shores of Rhode Island and Connecticut. I didn't get out to the beach, this year. No biggie as I heard the rip tides were unbelievable, I've seen some photos of the aftermath of one during low tide. I've seen and dipped my feet in the Pacific twice in my life. Once in Santa Monica and once further North outside the Bay area of CA. I'm planning a Pacific Northwest family vacation for next year. I'm sure that I'll see more of it. As far as further south on the east coast, my paternal grandparents once lived in Palm Beach. I've been to NYC a couple of times and drove to Virginia with my dad once.

I would say that coastal Maine is my favorite.

I've seen the Atlantic & the Pacific & the coasts of countries touching both - but only in the Northern Hemisphere. Flown over the Arctic - not sure if that really counts.

Someday, I want to see the Southern seas & coasts.

My favorite bit of water/coast isn't an ocean, though - it's the Mediterranean.

I've lived on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts and on the Gulf of Mexico. I love the ocean, but I prefer the mountains and rivers instead.

I'm wirh you on my live of mountains & rivers better. My choices if long weekends was backpacking into the wilderness of the Sierra's & my highlight vacation was a week long backpack into the wilderness of the Rockies all around the Grand Tetons. No other people & tons of wildlife (the animal kind)

I love oceans. I've been fortunate to have made many trips to places on both sides of North America. On balance I prefer the Atlantic. I've been to some great beaches in Maine, and New Brunswick.

It's not the same but at least I'm close to water if I need a fix, as I live on the shore of Lake Ontario.

I've only seen the Atlantic and the Pacific once each, but I've been to Lake Superior a few times now. I love large bodies of water. They're so calming. I don't know if I could ever live by one, because of the weather they tend to cause. But I love to visit, and I hope I get more chances to see the ocean some day.

Lake Superior is majestic isn’t it? I visited all of the Great Lakes and Superior is the most impressive in my opinion.

Pacific Ocean is cool esp near Surfers Paradise where the sand is so white and squeaks when you walk on it. Also been to the Southern Ocean and had a swim there.
