Has anyone had this before? It’s like toast covered in some sort of cheese sauce or something. I bought the Stouffers kind a couple weeks ago and I’m kind of nervous to try it. Does anyone like it?

I've had it a few times as a kid.

I don't not like it, but I don't like it either.

it's not bad

basically an egg cooked in the centre of a slice of toast. No worries. The cheese shocks me though. That is not how I grew up with it.

yeah some kind of sauce over toast. Welsh Rarebit | Recipes | Food Network UK

I think "egg in a basket" is what it's called when egg is cooked in the center of a piece of toast though.

My mom used to make it for us as kids. We LOVED it. I thought it was "Welsh Rabbit," lol. Edit: both spellings are correct.

I don't want my dinner hopping away.....do "welsh rabbits" taste different that cotton tails or jack rabbits?

All kidding aside. That is one dish I have never tried.....now I will have to find a good recipe & give it a try.

Looking up Welsh Rabbit (lol, I'm sticking to that pronunciation ), I found related recipes "Bubble and Squeak" and "Toad in the hole." Never had either of those, but they sounded good (and cute - I liked the names) as well.

My mom told us kids that in the "olden days" Welsh Rabbit / Rarebit is what the wives would make for their husbands if they didn't bring home any game after hunting. I found this fascinating.
Thanks for this!

My mum grew up in England and as kids we often had toad in the hole. It's just sausages laid out in batter and cooked in the oven.

Welsh Rarebit?

Oh, that picture. I read that the batter is yorkshire pudding, which, I don't know what that is either, but pudding in the US is sweet so it sounded good.

I had a brain freeze when I posted about toad in the hole. Was unable to think of yorkshire pudding to save my life. The mystery is now solved.
Thanks for this!
