It's not as fun as it was when I was younger, but I still try my best to get some joy out of it.

What i like about it:
Putting up the tree and decorating it.
Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes
Organic eggnog from Whole Foods
Treating myself to gifts
Participating in Native American Lifelines of Baltimore's annual secret Santa gift giving for Native children. My friend works there and every year I ask for 2 lists from 2 children, to make sure we get as many lists covered as we can.

What do you all like about the holidays?

My favorite thing about the holidays is how much Christmas spirit I still have.

I agree about it not being as fun as when I was a kid. But it’s not bad now. I remember when I was a kid on Christmas Eve my dad would take my siblings and I out to get pizza and see a movie while my mom wrapped presents. One year my dad took us to see the Jim Carey Grinch movie. After that we would go to church and then go to my grandmas for dinner. After awhile my siblings and I stopped believing in Santa so we would just go to church and my Grandmas at night and not do anything during the day. Christmas Day we would open presents and then go to my Uncles and there would be a ton of family.

Then in 2006 my Grandma died and I was in a few treatment centers until 2011. That was when it was tough enjoying Christmas. During that time my immediate family just celeberated Christmas by ourselves.

My dad died in 2014 and These past 4 years my Mom and my Brother and me go out to dinner for Christmas Eve, and then on Christmas Day my sister and Brother in Law and my 2 nephews come up and we open gifts and have a quite gathering with just overselves.

It’s very different, but not bad. I still really enjoy Christmas.

Every year it is different.

This year a relative sent me Christmas cookies from an old Italian bakery in Philadelphia. I ate them all in a week (!) and ordered another box for myself. Divine biscotti!

I am doing something I call Secret Santa Every Day...doing a good deed daily without anyone knowing it. It is actually harder than I thought it would be. Its also good because it is taking my mind off my problems.

It's sort of intangible.

I'm also getting into Christmas socks.

Putting up my little Christmas tree and seeing it all lit up. Listening to Christmas songs. Homemade shortbread cookies. Without those things it would be a truly depressing holiday for me.

The Holidays are more meaningful now. As a youngster who's father was clergy, I despised and resented the day as, unlike everyone else around me, he worked the whole day. In fact we saw little of him the entire Holiday week. Money was tight too and, while I understood this, it was more painfully aware this time of year. And add to that the gross difference between what was spent on my brother an myself it just wasn't a very happy time of year. In fact, even the selection of a Christmas tree sparked off an annual family fight. Nope, there are not a lot of good memories of the Holidays from my childhood.

It is different though now as the Season has come to have great meaning for me. I have developed and formed new traditions which I look forward to celebrating each year - like actually spending quality time with my family for a change.

Favourite things?

- family meals and get togethers
- carefully trodding across a lego strewn floor
- decorating
- snowman making
- sleighrides
- snowshoing
- and baking night with my adult son
