Is anyone else very into skincare routines? It's a huge part of my self care.

When I get home I remove my eye makeup with Lancome Bifacil, then double cleanse: first with Caudalie Cleansing Oil, then with Fresh Soy Cleanser (I sometimes use the Ole Henriksen foaming cleanser).

I tone with Kiehls Ultra Facial Oil Free Toner, then I apply Ole Henriksen Invigorating Nighttime Treatment, wait 20 minutes and then apply Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation cream. I use an eye cream, right now I'm using Algenist Complete Renewal Eye Balm. I also like Fresh Black Tea eye cream.

During the day I use various Korean sheet masks, oils and other treatments. I like the Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Youth Activating Face Oil, and usually before I shower in the evening I'll use a face mask like Fresh Rose, Umbrian Clay, Vitamin C, or a Peter Thomas Roth mask (Cucumber, Irish Mud or Pumpkin Enzyme). For showers i use a cold process soap I made, or a soap from Urban Whip. Lately I've been using Avene Body Oil.

What do the rest of you use?

I use the Jeju volcanic lava foam scrub from The FaceShop.
Honestly, I am TERRIBLE at skincare - I go to sleep with makeup on a lot and the only things I put on my face are toner and serum after if I do wash my face... And I wonder why I get blemishes

How long does it take you to do all that?
Don't you wear makeup during the day since you can put sheet masks on?

Oh no, it would be good if you could wash your makeup off.

It sounds very labor intensive in the written word, but it takes me less than 10 minutes to do most of it.
The only thing is, I have to wait about 20 minutes to put on face cream after using a serum. Other than that, I have learned to do it fast.

I work at home, so many days I don't wear makeup. I usually pick a day when I'm at home to use a sheet mask or treatment.

On very bad mental health days, I use Bioderma micellular water on a cotton pad to remove my makeup.

For blemishes, I use Pink Grapefruit Foaming Acne Scrub for breakouts and it is miraculous!! I am 61 and my skin still breaks out if I am not careful but that foam really helps me heal up quickly. It is almost overnight.

Other than that, I use Cetaphil facial soap and the lotion. But, my complexion is not flawless at all. I do what I can afford.

As long as it isn't breaking the bank, go to it. We sell at my work a wildly popular eye cream La Mer for $349 a teeny weeny small vial. Ridiculous. Boggles my mind. I say embrace one's aging. I've been grey since my early 40s. I'm 52 now with no wrinkles and my regimin has been nothing more than a wash with Ivory twice daily.

With me before I take my shower I use
Clinique scrub with a facial brush, astringent, then I put shimmer lights on my hair bc I frost. After my shower I put oil of Olay all over, do my feet heavy, put sox on, then astringent again, retinol-x anti aging moisturizer, then Infusium leave in treatment in my hair. This is my system, other than shaving, and my teeth.

I'm easy. Splash some water on my face in the shower and walk out with baby smooth skin...LOL!

I don't wear makeup often, but when I do, I use cold cream and then splash water on my face in the shower afterwards.

Once in a while, I'll pamper myself with a charcoal scrub face masque followed by a cooling cucumber peel off mask.

Yup, easy peasy.

I love Clinique make up but their skincare products made my face too dry.

Wow! Some of you really go all out!!

I am 44, people think I’m in my late 20s or early 30s. I’ve never used anything more than straight water on my face. I also don’t wear make-up. I think I’m hugely lucky that I don’t need a skin care regimen. I just can’t imagine spending that much time or energy on it (I’m not in any way judging any of you - I get that it’s a thing. Just not something I could ever do).

I do wash nightly with an exfoliating face wash. I do wash off masks a couple of times a week. I don't like nightime moisturizers because I find my skin gets oily with them. I do have combo skin. I'll use a toner, serum, moisturizer most mornings or just a quick moisturizer.
I love the Lancome bifocal eye make up remover btw. As I do wear a hint of eyeliner and mascara. Sometimes a little eye shadow but prefer it simple with my super early mornings. Some concealer-I'm trying to see if this new one will actually cover my allergy look under my eyes. I don't get puffy or anything just darkness which makes it look like I'm not rested which I probably am not on top of it. I mean my sons even have the allergy shiners so it seems more hereditary than anything. A nightime routine coincides with teeth brushing and finishing dishes end of night things. Multitasking pretty much.

I totally agree with this.

I may have great skin but it is heavily freckled. Genetics I suppose. My doctor has said they are on account of 30+ years of birth control. Now I have attempted to cover up the freckles and spots with heavier matte foundation but the experience was unpleasant. It felt as though my face wasn't breathing. I use a water based light weight foundation instead to at least even out the natural colours and tones of my face but essentially it is practically see-through. Light on the blush and just a hint of eye makeup. I admit though to rather heavy eyeliner and mascara.

Again just water and Ivory soap. No creams or lotions.

I am today 52. Most people are surprised when I tell them I have a child in their early 30s. I have been told by many that I look ten years younger.

I don't wish to bash those of you who do have a regimen. It is your choice. But I do want to make an observation here based on what I see go out of my workplace in grocery carts. It would appear that it is the uber young who spend the most on creams and serums. Those in their 30s-late 40s I don't see much in the way of skincare products. Then we come to the ladies in their 60s and 70s who seem to spend near as much as the young women. I kind of feel sorry for them with the wonder that they truly think these products are going to roll back time. One just has to observe advertising to see these products are marketed towards the younger generation which I feel is rather sad.

Just my observation and personal choice though ladies. Again, do what your feel is best just don't prioritise it over other things in your life.

It's interesting to me to see the wide range of skincare habits, from those who use 20 products a day to those who just use water. It goes to show how unique people are.

I wash my face in the shower.....no make-up ever. I have had too many allergic reactions & swollen shut eyes from trying different (even allergy free) makeups when young. I don't wish to waste my time or money of any of that when soap & water works just as well for me. My priorities at my age are NOT on looks.....but just finding time to take care of everything in my life & have money to cover expenses. Doesn't leave extra & I don't miss anything I have to really mess around with. I need simple & easy at this point in life.

I will come back & haunt any funeral place that piles on makeup to make me not look like myself....but in reality that will NOT be an issue....it is just something I have noticed they do at every funeral I have gone to this year. I just like REAL natural.

New products: I'm currently trying the Farmacy Honeymoon AHA serum, Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic +Retinol Eye Serum and Kiehl's Creamy Avocado eye cream. I like them so far. I just bought Drunk Elephant Night Serum and once the Farmacy serum is done I'm using that.

Are any of you trying anything new?

I use rolled oats soaked in spring water for a facial and body exfoliate, followed by a spritzy spring water refresher, and then for my face use a deep moisturizer by Clarins. For shower I use L'Occitane Verbena shower gel, and for my feet their lovely Lavender Foot Balm. Alternatively I'm rather partial to Acqua Di Parma hair shampoo, and their lovely soap if I'm up for a bath wallow.

I’m currently using mostly Korean brands I like them because I feel they are gentle for my skin, maybe because I’m Asian too eventhough I’m not Korean.

Face soap, face toner, face oil, and face cream from Some By Mi.
Clay mask and sheet masks from Innisfree.
Sleeping mask, sleeping lip mask, and eye serum from Laneige.
Son & Park makeup remover.
The saem aloe vera gel.
(Another) sheet masks from the face shop.
Pimple patch from Cosrx.

Face scrub, rose water face mist, and cleansing milk from a local brand.
Lip balm and cuticle cream from Burt’s Bees.
Hand cream from Philosophy.
Body lotion and body scrub from local brand.

I don’t use all of them everyday. I switch them depends on what my skin needs at the moment (and depends on the level of my laziness). I’m 32 and if I want to age like a fine wine I better take care of my skin. I’ve been doing skincare since I was a teen (thanks Mom!) though the products keep changing. Not sure if keeps changing products is good but I guess it’s better than nothing

I really like Korean skincare too. I love the Innisfree masks, and a bunch of stuff from Skinfood. I also like a few things from Etude House.

Currently using retin A every other day the first two weeks since it dries out your skin, and my skin will peel at first. It’s a prescription and Target sells it over the counter at lower strength. In the past as a teenager had acne pretty bad so used accutane medication and it’s so great at clearing up your skin. Then used retin A in my 20’s, but my skin was breaking out pretty bad. Have had chemical peels or it’s laser resurfacing to help acne, wrinkles. Just wear tinted moisturizer on my face and moisturizer with spf sunscreen on my neck, sometimes eye liner and lipgloss.

I have “good skin,” likely because I have worn SPF 15 facial moisturizer daily since my teens. I am not trying to look younger, but I have gotten very much into skin CARE over the years. The Korean products are a trend that actually improve my skin...when I use them.

Unfortunately, my self-care has taken a dive for several months due to depression—but here is my skin care routine when I am “better.” I use a combination of Lancôme and Korean skin care products. Mainly Lancôme for initial cleaning and they have an excellent eye makeup remover called Bi-Facil. I also use one of their facial moisturizers with SPF and eye cream. I use a day and night version.

Many days, I go without makeup, but 99% of my products are Lancôme.

For Korean products, I have a toner that I use before moisturizing. I finish up with a few drops of facial oil ... it is Korean but I cannot recall the brand.

Hmmm....this is a good thread. It is motivating me to start taking better care of myself.

I occasionally use Korean facial masks and a Korean rice cleanser-based exfoliating cream on my face. Otherwise I use gentle Lancôme cleanser, it is very soothing. Shower skin care I typically a moisturizing body wash like Oil of Olay with a bath scrubby sponge. Makes me feel super clean but does not dry my skin.

After shower moisturizer, usually Nivea or Jergens. Vaseline on my lips.

Pravana shampoo and Purology conditioner. My favorite brand is Oi but is is terribly expensive. Redken hair treatment/leave in product after shower. I cannot remember the last time I used a hair dryer. I actually have a leave in cream called No Blow Dry by Redken so my hair does not look like a disaster as it curls up when it air dries. lol

Bubble baths, sugar scrubs and Epsom salts if I bathe in lieu of shower. Bath & Body Works.

***My daily routing 99% of the time the past several months after I cycled into bipolar depression

Most days I use a generic facial wipe to clean my face and body cleansing wipes for a pseudo “bath”....my OCD is out of control and the above products are gifts from my fiancé. Use Dove deodorant.

Also a line of bath aromatherapy for stress and sleep. Same store.

Why do I have all this nice stuff? My fiancé. I am agoraphobic and only leave my home for doctor appointments. So he gives me these gifts. And Yankee jar candles which I love. Not because he wants me to look better, just to show love and help me realize I deserve self-care.

My OCD leads to house cleaning frenzies yet I am likely the dirtiest thing in the house. Therapy and medication have failed to help. I force a shower before my pdoc appointment because he has put me IP due to lack of ability to care for myself, which extends to food and other things exacerbated by agoraphobia.

I love makeup and have ... plenty. Lancôme. I do not wear it for others. I have. It worn any for a few days, but most days Lancôme mascara and Juicy Tube Caramel Gospel.

I love nail polish, too, all different brands. Lots of drugstore brands are great. But I have not painted them in awhile.

The only time I want to go out and feel safe is if I have bipolar hypomania or mania.

I do have a plan to change. I hope it works. I have enough stuff for an army. I need a shove.

I have used Dr Gross facial wash before and really liked it, but I felt the price point was too high.

Where do you shop for your products, if you do not mind me asking? I have not heard of Drunk Elephant and Farmacy.

Maybe PM me if you like. On;y if you want to! I am new and would like friends, love beauty routines although I struggle right now.

Since we are on this subject: What can someone who only discovered good skincare about 10 years ago do? I am 44 ( I am quite sure I LOOK it too) and I grew up before they knew so much about skin cancer and baking in the sun. My mom would lay on the beach with baby oil and she used to slap some zinc on my nose and thats about it. Since I have gotten older I do not tan like I used to and for the last 10 years or so I always use sunscreen. But only in the last 5 have I been better with sunscreen on my face. Now I wash and moisturize with something that has spf in it and my foundation has spf but my skin has gotten much more oily with perimenopause. What is a good product I can use to do what I need it to do but that will stay on, not sweat off and not make my ridiculous pores look worse? Its weird how my skin has gotten to be more like a teenager's skin as I have gotten into my 40's! I just havent found the right products yet. I have tried expensive stuff by clinique and currently use something by garnier. I have a dermatologist that prescribed a facewash for me due to breakouts and I have a retin treatment for post-wash and I am aware of the importance in sunscreen when you use retin. Any thoughts?
