I know I am a super grump but my boss gets me the same thing every year, but it is something I absolutely can't use. It really makes me upset. He gets me a gift card that can only be used at certain restaurants. Mostly sit down restaurants. I have no one to go with? Can he truly be that dense?

So I end up having to give this away to my sister who has a family. Every single year!

Mostly I got gift cards for coffee shops.

It's hard to know what goes through their minds sometimes when it comes to gifts.

I remember, when I was a kid, this person would always buy me a cd of this pop group I didn't like on my birthday- and every year I'd say thanks dawn for the cd, but actually I don't really like this group

give it a year, and the next year she'd buy me the same

we're not even talking diffrent albums- I must have 5 coppies of the same cd thanks to her

sorry about the gift you can't use

Thanks, that is it, that it is so bizarre and also, that it is this very specific gift card that you really can't sell (because it is a local type thing that isn't something others really want) and that it is always the exact same thing... every single year? Never mixes it up.

The best thing I got is gel nail set with lamp and stuff and a nice shiny case where everything fits. Along with it got a case that looks like a black leather miniature suitcase for all my other nail paraphernalia (not gel ones). Everything fits perfect! Both cases are so cute that I don’t need to always hide them in the bathroom and my nails look gorgeous. Really happy!!!

I got pig socks!! I was really surprised, because we don't celebrate Christmas in my house. When I left for work early this morning there was a stocking with a few treats and some pig socks. I'm so happy!

I treated myself to a new hairdryer, makeup bag and some freshened products some of which were black friday sales.
Otherwise some giftcards and I have two aunts (edit..and an uncle) that think nothing of spoiling me a little.
Almost forgot because it came so early but a kitchen table set-well it was applied cash but that's what I purchased with some early November cash...

Clothes, mainly. I remember as a kid complaining about getting clothes for Christmas, especially coats. We were poor so my parents were practical. Now, I have two coats and I'm absolutely happy.

I also have new coloring pencils since I gave my old (barely used) ones to my daughter when she moved out.

I see next to your avatar that you need a little reading lamp. It’s hilarious because I need one too like the one that attaches to your book. Ha I usually read in kindle but sometimes I want to read actual book in bed. I saw amazon has them
Thanks for this!

I treated myself to a lot of nice things: two Ralph Lauren sweaters and a coat, a Calvin Klein dress, three bottles of ILNP nail polishes, Bourjois makeup, and earrings. My friends gave me a copy of "The Conquest of Happiness" by Bertrand Russell, a bottle of OPI nail polish, a rose quartz face roller, a jar of Old Bay seasoning and caramel popcorn.

But one of the nicest things I received was a card in the mail. I used to work in a medical office, and I was friendly with some of the patients. I no longer work there, but I sent some of my handmade buttermilk soap to a few patients. One of these people sent me a card thanking me for remembering her and her husband. She told me to let her know if I sell my soaps. I loved her card so much, I read it 3x in a row.

Narwhal stuffies and a narwhal pillow (I'm slightly obsessed). A necklace that came in the tiniest little gift bag I've ever seen. I may have squealed at the bag alone. I'm not a fancy girl, doesn't take much to make me smile. Lol. Also gift cards for Starbucks and my favorite restaurant.

I got given an ugly plant which was a passed-on unwanted present. My kitchen is full of plants brought in from the cold, so I'm going to give it away. The same person used to give champagne, then chocolates, and now a measly plant.

But I've positively enjoyed not-celebrating Xmas this year, and my favourite thing is the non-material gifts: people who unexpectedly thought of me, people who smiled, people who gave humanity in the middle of chaos. The way that I've gently found a way through my own exhaustion. Waking up rested and thankful.

My work did a Secret Santa, and I got a bunch of dark chocolate (which what I asked for).

My family doesn't do presents anymore, and I am glad. I always found Christmas shopping to be stressful, and actually I don't really like shopping of any kind.

I think it's just a change in the things you need

when I was a kid, if I got clothes for christmas, I don't think I'd have been too happy (because back then it was toys and candy that I wanted most)

now if I get clothes and perfume I'm fine with it, because I need that stuff

solid proof I think tastes change

I got 2 Denny’s gift cards, an amazon gift card, a visa gift card, a lush gift card, and a chia pet.

My sister gave me the chia pet and she wasn’t sure I would like it. I like it I’m just not very good with plants. But there’s a good spot in the kitchen by the window where plants have done good this past year. I need a new hobby anyways. Plus it’s a Golden Girls one and that’s the one I would have chosen if I had been looking for a chia pet.
