My girlfriend and I have twins due in December, two boys, but neither of us have come to a full agreement on names yet! I've got a million lists of names lying around the house and I thought I'd see what you guys all thought of a few.

Sean (Irish)
Vito (Spanish/Italian)
Altair (Arabic, flying eagle/flying)
Amir (Arabic, Prince)
Clyde (English)
Leo (Latin, lion)
Balder (Norse, prince)
Erik (Scandinavian)
Jan (Scandinavian)
Dante (Italian)
Griffin (English)
Ari (Norse, eagle)
Kurt (German)
Kiefer (English, from German ‘barrel maker’)
Keith (English/Scottish)
Tycho (Greek, hitting the mark)
Tyko (Swedish, from Greek Tycho)
Saif (Arabic, sword)
Seth (Egyptian Mythology, Dazzle)
Qadir (Arabic, Powerful)
Torin (Irish Gaelic, Chief)

Some of them have meanings, and both my girlfriend and I like original names. Just thought I'd see what everyone thought of them, if anyone has questions on how to say them I'll try to clear it up. Thanks Baby Names

i like your avatar. is that one of the hyenas from the lion king? looks like it.

anyways.... the biggest issue is to make sure that it flows. you have to look at the last name and if youre going to use a middle name also. and the most annoying thing to me is when parents stick to one letter. like my friend brandon has a sister and a brother. brandon, britney and brad. and their last name starts with a b. that bugs the crap out of me! lol

anyways... im partial to irish names, but im irish. i love the name shamess and think irish names are so cool.

another thing to think of is you dont want your kids name to spell anything bad. like i know a kid with the initials B.S. thats just mean lol

unless you want them to someday be mobsters i would stay away from vito lol

my favorites from your list are sean, torin and seth.

Yeah, I love hyenas.

The last name will start with L, and we don't think we'll use a middle name.

And that's exactly what my girlfriend said about Veto, so I'm not sure we'll use it Baby Names

if you like the hyenas you can name it shenzi or banzai or ed. those were all the hyenas from the lion king.

Sean
Leo
Erik
Jan
Ari
Kurt
Keith

I like those best because they don't have many "other" connotations to me and are somewhat regular so other kids aren't likely to make fun of them? Some of the other names sound a bit too grown up or action hero :-) for my tastes or just "odd". Altair is a famous constellation and Griffin a beast. Tycho I associate with Tycho Brahe, a famous astronomer known for his drinking and his nose (and his famous, very worthwhile astronomical observations http://www.nada.kth.se/~fred/tycho/index.html ). I just think educated people are going to make some associations like these and others might think some names pretentious?

I actually like the names of the Hyenas, but if my memory serves their names all mean negative things in Swahili, I think one of them means Dirty and the other means Evil or something along those lines?

My girlfriend is really into the meanings of names, and I know she'd like names with meanings and history. A few of the names could be perceived as being snobby I suppose, and a few of them I think would be too hard to say/spell perhaps.

I have personal ties with the name Altair which is why I put it on the list, but I'm not sure if it would work or no.

Thanks for replies everyone!

I think my girlfriend wants to try to stay away from religious names, but I like the name Dominic, it has a nice sound to it.

It's more direct religious meanings to the Bible, but I'm going to talk to her about it anyways, so many names have religious meanings.
