I have just read that in my country the two first professions with a highest rate for suicide are: Civil Guards (kinda mix of police and military force) and then, police officers.
Understandable so far, doesn’t it?

Ok, the third profession more affected by this evil is...psychiatrists.
I don’t know how to take in it.

Lol! Me too. I’m ashtonished. It must be a plausible explanation and causes.
I don’t know which the rate in other countries. Spain, my country, as any other mediterranean country has a low rate of suicide compared to other countries.
I don’t want to think for a single moment that us, nusts from my country cause this effect. I’m kidding and exaggerating of course. :-)

For both police and mental health professionals it's a reflection of the stress of the job. One of my dearest friends was a retired police officer with PTSD (result of his job.) What he told me is that the culture for police is to be "tough" and not seek out help for the horrible things they see in the course of their work.

For mental health professionals, we listen to other people's pain all day every day. Without good self-care people in thee profession are at risk of compassion fatigue (similar to complex PTSD). Some folks in the profession believe they ought to be able to heal themselves and refuse to ask for help.
Thanks for this!

I see it similarly to lizardlady. Yes, in theory, psychiatrists should know how to manage stress. But in reality, hearing and seeing so much human misery all the time has to be stressful. And let's not forget that many choose this profession because they have their own issues, too.

And I see you both made a lot of sense in your responses and I made a little fool of myself in this thread.
There weren’t bad intentions though. Ok?

I guess other kinds of doctors, nurses, caretakers don’t must be very far from stress either but as you both said, it’s more acceptable that they get a help.

I didn't think you made a fool of yourself, Azul. It was a valid question. I often ask questions about things that seem obvious to others, that's OK. For example I ask my friend how do I download a set of stickers on FB messanger which she found funny because it's so easy to her! Or yesterday, an older lady asked me about why her doughnuts were hard and I told her I don't put an egg in the dough which seemed obvious to me. Other times, my mother will scold me because I don't know how to dust furniture in the way she thinks is the best. Well, it's normal right? No one can know everything!

That's why we have forums like this, so everyone knows a little and we exchange thoughts and ideas

You didn't make a fool of yourself. I saw something you did not understand and asked about it. It's okay. Asking questions is how we learn.

I know it, guys! It’s only that as soon as I read the piece of news, the first pops into my mind was a joke, I didn’t have the sensitivity enough to consider the toughness of the topic.

Me too, @seeker, I also ask frequently questions whose replies are obvious to many people, I would say my case is a little extreme though, kind of asking even questions a mature woman wouldn’t ask. But, I have my reasons and explanations. Don’t think it’s a big deal. Never felt bad about asking questions until someone drew me how childish questions I asked. I don’t think this person was right, though but it made me think.

Oh hon, I have a very dark sense of humor at times. It's a way of relieving stress.

FWIW, I don't think your questions are childish.

You’re totally right. Humor, whatever colour, is needed at bunches.
