This is getting me down. Personally I work a long day. I get up at 5:30 am and rush out the door to leave at 7. Then, I leave work at 5 and get home at 6:15 or 6:30. Then I eat and get about 1 hour to do anything.
So, I would prefer to do things on the weekend. This weekend was perfect. But no one was around. I co HOA member wanted to do something. So when we got to the weekend I asked her... she goes.. oh I am in new york want to do it Tuesday? Ahh ... no, not really. It seems lately all my free time is "free time" where nothing can happen. Can't get mail, can't do things for my HOA. In fact almost everything my HOA wants to do they want to do during the week after work. Why? Why can't we do things on the weekend? The reason is they plan things... but I am getting sick of that. Even some retail things... like I got a eye exam but when they closed on Saturday they weren't open Sunday and I could only come back during the week at night unless I wanted to come on Saturday. So tried of it. |

Oh wow... if you're up at 5:30 (and it sounds like you've got a pretty long commute), I don't blame you for not wanting to do things in the evenings. You probably need to get to bed pretty early, don't you, to get up that early?
It sucks... everybody has different schedules and priorities. Are the other people on the HOA able to get up fairly early? Just wondering if doing stuff early on a weekend (like 7 or 8am) would be a compromise, since usually stuff isn't scheduled that early (so they'd have plenty of time after for whatever else they're doing). Business hours... I agree, I find a lot of places kind of difficult. Especially if they only offer M-F 8-5 type hours, since that means I can't go unless I take off from work. There's a little vacuum shop about 20 minutes from me that I wanted to go to (when I was shopping for my vacuum cleaner), but I had to skip, b/c I didn't think I'd have time over lunch to do it... and one of the reasons I don't use an independent mechanic is that all of the good ones near me are closed on Sat and Sun! I don't want to have to take time off from work to do an oil change! *hugs* Not sure any of this was helpful (sorry) - but wanted to say, "I hear ya!" ![]() |

Yeah you gotta plan things during the week for a weekend. Or plan on the weekend for a future weekend, get your ducks in a row, then contacting people during the week wont be so hard.

I hate that too. Why are banks open from Monday to Friday, 9 to 5?
And doctors are even worse. My pdoc is open from 10 to 4, Monday through Thursday. She is not available at all Friday through Sunday. I did find a dentist and eye doctor that are open on Saturdays luckily. |

It's surprising in this day and age how many businesses are only open M-F 8-5 or something like that. You would think there would be more extended hours. I suppose though with the cost of labor/overhead....but still. Customer service should stand for something! Stepping off my soap box now. HUGS Kit

Personally, perhaps this is a single person thing.. I want to be doing errands in my free time. Not "fun things" but that is impossible because 50% of errands that I could do, are closed on Friday -Sunday or holidays. Plus all kinds of people are not available on the weekends (want to meet up with someone and study? ) Nope not available they have family stuff and want to meet up Monday night at 7 PM. Kind of makes me feel like I am a prisoner to this. |

I think it's an interesting theory (re: family versus single person).
I'm single, and you're right, I plan most of my chores/errands for the weekends. I'm usually too tired after work to get much done, although lately, I've been trying to do a bit more, so I can have fun time on the weekends. It sucks to feel like my entire weekend is nothing but chores, but that's probably more of a "depressed guilloche" issue than "single person" issue. |

Why are things only open on weekday business hours? Remember, they want their weekends to do things too.

But my co HOA member did explain to me she was in NYC to take a recertification examination so it wasn't necessarily a fun thing. |

It’s really hard to work everything in. I end up taking a day off work to go to all my appointments and it’s frustrating.
