So I think I have mentioned that I am frustrated with my HOA. I am on the Board of Trustees. I got on because the person in charge was completely horrible.
Here are the members "The idiot": Not only does this guy not have any respect for the Unit Owners, he has no respect for women, and is so... Trumpesqe.. people are ready to kill him. He is the reason I got on the Board. He refuses to allow maintenance requests and likes to go talk to the residents and infuriate them. He is also a horrible liar but the rest of the Board seems unable to see this. "Mr. Prissy Pants": Again, zero respect for the Unit Owners. He actually believes that people elected him to use his judgment. He is the newest resident and so he is also the most ignorant. But the biggest frustration I have with him is that he can't remember anything and he refuses to answer his e-mails in a timely manner.... I feel that *he* feels he shouldn't have to do any work between meetings. "Christine": I thought we would form a block against the idiot. But she has been turned by his lies and charms. She also doesn't answer her e-mails properly. "Emily" (ironically not me) also does not answer e-mails promptly or accurately and is new to the Board so again, ignorant and constantly doesn't answer the question properly. The question is "can we tell the resident x"and she answers with -- can she get this in writing ? The good news... in a few months three members other than me will leave the board... the bad news.. I don't think I can take it. We agreed at the last meeting that when there is a question the board will not e-mail the property manager and will make its decision outside of the property manager. Then *I* would e-mail the property manager the final decision. But so far I don't even understand what the final decision is. So last night after getting three answers that didn't seem to authorize certain behavior, I e-mailed Christine who had answered with "I want the work to be done" But the question was, do you want the work to be done and have the Unit Owner come to our next meeting. I asked her nicely if he wanted the Unit Owner to come to our next meting. She answers. "I want the work to be done" Yeh, I don't know what games you people are playing but I am tired of it. What is wrong with people? I swear. |

I'm sorry. But having been on our townhome association's BOD, I just had to chuckle all the way through your post.

Naturally “Christine” wants the work to be done. But HOW?
Reminds me of O.J. Simpson bleating, “I just want this trial over. I just want it OVER.” Uh, yeah, I’ll bet you do, you disgusting p.o.s. .... |

Thanks guys, it is just so passive aggressive. After I posted this the "idiot" sent off an e-mail disagreeing with everyone and IMHO trying to get the property manager to act without the rest of us.
He says he "misunderstood" but no he didn't. Of course he is making it like i am some special snowflake now for objecting. Ever since I was a child I have had a hard time working in groups... this is why. People always want to appoint me in charge and then, do not want to comply and play their little games. We set a policy and then no one follows it. This last year we tried this before and it didn't work. I want to get off just so I can get my life back but with the election in September, I don't want to give up my opportunity to make a real difference in my final year. |

Oh yea....I was treasurer of our gardenhome community HOA for years because I had an accounting degree & NO ONE ELSE wanted the job. We also had a local lawyer on our BOD.
We supposedly had a bank that was set up to do the billing but they kept messing it up (automated system) & everyone came to me because I always figured out the problem & got it fixed while working 60-80 hours a week in my computer design engineer career. Lol....put our home up for sale & SWORE never to.live in a HOA ever again. Yes, others on the board were opinionated block heads. I just voted & tried to keep a logical point if view presented if nothing else. (Took 7 years for our home to finally sell)

Oh wow, that sounds awful. I'm sorry you (and everyone else who has served on an HOA) has to deal with that...
I have (from time to time) considered trying to get on the board. At one point, the woman in our community who runs everything seemed to think I'd be a good fit. But, I always feel like I'm drowning in my own stuff - mental health, work, and not having the energy to get everything done. I don't think I could take a board position and keep what's left of my sanity. Good luck Emily! I hope that when things turn over in September you get some people in who are a bit easier to work with. |
