So, one of my dreams is to be the next Weird Al Yankovic. I've been writing song parodies since elementary school. This by far has been the most challenging. I was amazed Weird Al could pull this off (lyrics and vocals, wow!), and I am so proud of the parody I was able to do.
Over the years, I've written parodies about the places I've worked, but have always felt I was too shy or that it wasn't the right workplace to share them with my coworkers. Well, at my most current job, we have stand-up at 10 o' clock sharp. Stand-up is a general meeting, and anyone who is late must sing or dance for the group. With the summer approaching, the morale will be very low and I am hoping I could boost people's spirits by coming a couple minutes late every Friday and singing one of my parodies. I have three hotel-related song parodies and all are clean. This one in particular I have been dying to take on but wasn't sure how. I've listened to Weird Al's version but it wasn't until tonight when I listened to the original song where I found my inspiration. This took me close to three hours before I felt confident. It literally took me an hour per each big rap segments. This is "My Tribute to the Houseman: Stockin' Linen", a parody of "Ridin' Dirty" by Chamillionaire as well as a parody-on-parody of "White and Nerdy" by Weird Al Yankovic They see me rollin’, they cleanin’, patrollin’ and tryin’ to catch me stockin’ linen Tryin’ a catch me stockin’ linen Tryin’ a catch me stockin’ linen Tryin’ a catch me stockin’ linen Tryin’ a catch me stockin’ linen I wanna roll with the keepers They hopin’ that they gonna catch me stockin’ linen Tryin’ a catch me stockin’ linen Tryin’ a catch me stockin’ linen Tryin’ a catch me stockin’ linen Tryin’ a catch me stockin’ linen Amy think they can see me clean I’m tense so it ain’t easy to be seen When you see me pass by I can see them clean And their shine on the deck and the TV screen Work for a new chick and she’s like “hold up” Next to feeling mucho consola I have a drill tip and a soda Turn a work order into a coma Girl you ain’t know, I’m crazy like Carol though Just tryin’ to work, ain’t trying to have no lazy Days to clean so I pull in ladies Cuz y’all patrolling and you know they need me Work orders all the way up to the maximum I can speak for some dawgs cuz they ask for some But we workin’ something that we have And um will have a keeper stocked up for the maximum Linen closet, and I’m drippin’ OH Demanding now guest tippin’ low Twin sheets ready like take this load Omar pull up right behind and it’s in his arms Windows open gotta stop pollution Owners change, keepers like who is that nuisance? I love it!
But - i would shorten a version to perform at work. Like of the most colorful, meaningful lines? I like the windows air pollution line, demanding guests tipping low, etc. And the chorus is great. I just have a short attention span anymore. |
