Last night I found a dime size lump on the side of my neck. Tonight I found a decent size lump on the top of my neck. Needless to say I’m freaking the **** out right now. My mom feels them too and I plan on seeing the doctor on Monday to get them checked out. I’ve been a hyopocondiac my whole life. But I’ve never actually found anything like this before. I’m really, really worried. I’m literally shaking right now. Any comments or suggestions on how to relive my anxiety would be greatly appreciated.

I'm so sorry you are having to go through this frightening experience. I don't know as I have any particularly creative suggestions to offer you regarding how to relieve your anxiety. What I typically do to relieve my own anxiety is to go for a long walk. Hopefully the lumps you found will turn out to be no big deal. But I know how stressful something like this can be. My best wishes to you...

Thanks.
I have been feeling under the weather lately. Moody. Short tempered. Some days I don’t feel like eating. I’ve spent the last few nights lying in bed watching TV instead in of the basement like I always do. I just thought it was my anxiety and stress and the last few days of my SAD. I never thought anything else might be going on.

I'm sorry and can understand your feelings of anxiety because I get super anxious too about medical things. Sometimes I've had enlarged lymph nodes in my neck when I've been sick, but I don't know if that's what you're feeling. It's good you'll be seeing the doctor soon, and hopefully that will put your mind at ease. Keep resting, do things to take your mind off it and take care.

Yeah if you have a sinus infection or anything like that, a cold coming on, a gum infection, you can get swollen lymph nodes, which MIGHT be what those are. I get them from time to time, my nose is always stuffed! If you nick your underarm shaving, the one(s) in your underarm can swell and be very painful. Google it.
Feeling under the weather could be a cold. I think often we dont notice our body's signals until they are so bad or different that we cant ignore them anymore. Like huge snots, or your chest makes noise when you breathe, and youre like, hmm, i dont remember THAT sound being there yesterday! |

Are the lumps itchy? They could be hives. I have had hives before and am still not sure what I'm allergic too. I take allergy medicine and they go away. I hope that's all it is.

I had swollen lymph nodes due to an infection and it actually had me worried as hell so try to keep calm and go see a doctor but from the sounds of it that's what you probably have and they actually can turn up over night like mine did and if they're the size of a dime or even a quarter the doctor said it was nothing to worry about and was probably an infection due to a bad tooth or a zit that drained into the lymph nodes causing them to swell and become tender to the touch and doctor gave me a steroid shot to kick up the immune system and muscle relaxers plus Vicodin for the pain and he also recommended heat therapy to the infected area be it a heating pad or hot wash cloth to help the blood flow and a hot or warm bath can also help and usually antibiotics are needed to get rid of it but if it's anything bigger than a golf ball a doctor should be seen immediately so hope this helps and hope you get better because swollen lymph nodes hurt really bad even if they're small so hope this helps you get over the worry because I've been in a situation like this so peace

I'd advise seeing a doctor, MountainDewed. They can give you an expert opinion and hopefully set your mind at rest. May indeed be enlarged lymph nodes from some sort of infection.

I really like Skeezyks's idea of going for a walk. Also rest could be good as well as watching something funny. Laughter is good for so many things and you seem like you like to laugh. What do you enjoy that also distracts you, mountaindewed? Try that too. Hugs. Hopefully its nothing.

Thanks everyone.
I woke up this morning and the entire left side of my neck is really painful. The lump is about the same size. Maybe sligltly wider. The lump on my head hurts now too. My doctor is not open today. I don’t really think I should go to the ER should I?

How about going to an urgent care center instead of the ER?

Well the lumps on your neck sound like lymph nodes. Are the ones on your head at the back near the base of the skull or perhaps just above your ears. These could be lymph nodes too (they travel). What about under your arm pits. In extreme cases those lymph nodes will go into over drive too. I wouldn't get too panicky. Go to a walk in clinic as soon as you can. My guess, as mentioned above, this could be the symptoms of fighting a bacteriological infection. It is what our body does. There could be a very simple reason and solution for this. Don't get too upset, please, until you need to be.

I did go to the ER. I don’t have an urgent care around me that’s opened on weekends. The doctor said the one on my neck is a lymph node. He said the thing on the top of my head is a cyst. He said they should both go away on their own but to follow up with my own doctor. I’m glad I went though because I feel a lot better mentally. He said I’m probably going to end up getting sick. Like a cold because of the lymph node on my neck.
I’m still kind of concerned about this lump on my head though. Its sort of numb and throbbing now. I’ve taken 650 Tylenol.

My coworker texted me and told me to call in tomorrow. I’m like why? If I'm able to work then I should go in. That’s another reason I wanted to get this taken care of today. Because I have work in the morning.

MD, I'm so glad you took action and went to the ER. I'm glad you're feeling better, or that you could at least get your mind eased.

I had to get a lump "lanced" years ago. I'm pretty squeamish about needles and knives, but it was easy and fine.
It's okay to admit you're a little scared. They get that all the time. |

Whew! All that worry and all is okay. I am so very please for you. The doctor's reaction to the cyst tells us it likely isn't serious. Breathe free! What a relief.

Ah, I just replied in the "how are you feeling" thread (before I saw this) - so ignore that!
I'm glad you're feeling better too, and were able to get to the ER for a doctor to take a look. That kind of stuff can be so hard, it helps a ton to have a professional actually look at it and let you know what's likely going on. I hope you're able to fight off whatever has got your lymph glands swelling up, and that the bump on your head disappears quickly on its own! |

Thanks.
I am still glad I went yesterday because its still there today and it still hurts. So I would have just ended up going today anyways and possibly missing work or leaving early. I hope no one was paying any attention to the fact that I kept scratching and touching my head absentmindedly. I know my coworker texted me yesterday and I told her what was going on.

Don’t tell your psychiatrist.. the most unusual physical symptoms can occur and the explanation is ‘mental’. They’ll smile fiendishly and reach for the pen and script you. They’ll prance you along till they become ready to serve your lifetime plot. Myself I had severe sinus problems to the point my ears and eyes head and neck became stiff it wasn’t doing me favours. But of course. The psychiatrist says your lack of information and insecurity is paranoia. Often it is allergy- even to other people and their illnesses.
Injuries and illnesses that happened many years ago can reappear and move to different locations. |

Glad the news is good 'Dewd. I've had a couple of things alarm me over the years and while they put quite a fear into me, they were thankfully among the normal physiological hiccups a body can have. Cheers!

I’m trying not to panic but the lump on my head feels even worse today. When I accidentally touch it it hurts really bad. And I found a second lump on my neck. Also I was surprised when I weighed myself this morning because I was a lot lighter then I was expecting.
