I finally decided to start a new Facebook account after a one year absence (deactivating, not deleting) but decided to keep my old account for messenger. When I switched accounts on my phone to look at my new messenger account, I was logged out of my old account while also forgetting that account’s password. Even with the login recovery mode and forgot password feature I get messages that read that there’s no phone number, email, or name associated with my old account. I gave up after numerous login attempts locked me out of the old account. Doesn't make much sense since I had not fully deleted my old account yet. It won't matter if there's no solution; I've already started telling my closer friends I have a new FB and Messenger.

But is there any way at all to change a password for my inactive account?

I think you would have to contact Facebook admin for help with that. Sorry I can't do more!

Don't worry about it. You've already been much more helpful than other non-PC sites where I've asked this question!

I’ve been trying to figure this out as well.. I’m trying to figure out how long I can have my Facebook temporarily deactivated before I can’t log in at all. I was told I could still use messenger but I’m not even sure that’s working. People don’t seem to be getting my messages.

I hope you got yours fixed.

Thank you to all who have posted so far. I was having issues because I attempted logging into my original profile too many times, so I was locked out of that account for a few days. But I think that was the source of my problem. Which was resolved once I requested a password change a few days afterwards.
