My mother's cooking in general--such as chicken and dumplings, fried corn bread, fried squash, etc.

And my grandmother's cooking--such as her coconut cake

I would eat plain feta cheese right out of the container before kindergarten. I know I can still buy it though. It is annoying that kids these days seem to be such picky eaters when 20 years ago that didn’t seem to be the case. I’d eat feta, black olives, and chicken pot pies when I was 5 years old and now my nephews and cousins around the same age I was at the time throw fits at the dinner table for every meal.

What my cousin calls "stucky soup" - basically the tiny pastina noodles that are in italian wedding soup, heavily buttered, that we got when we were sick. Its a wonder we all dont look like Honey Booboo. Well, I do, but the rest of the family is pretty normal!

Everything else i can pretty much get on amazon. The stuff my parents used to bribe my brother a dollar to eat (i however was incorruptible) are now considered gourmet. Go figure!

Homemade apple pie. We could do it. But we just don't make the effort...

I didnt realize that chichis had closed down in the US. Hep-A from green onions in 2004. Many stores were sold to Outback. Chichis was great.

ANY fish fry with my Dad and my Grandfather doing the prepping and cooking....

Pan-fried smelts for breakfast ( with eggs & toast), when they were abundant and in season....

My old best friend's Grandma's spaghetti sauce. I only had it once, but I never forgot it. I believe it was a true Bolognese, cooked with incredible attention to detail, and love....

ANYTHING my Mother made, period.

OH yes! Fresh fish, walleye from the lake. Put into tinfoil with vegetables and butter and thrown on the edge of a fire after a full day of swimming. There is no better meal.

My mother never cooked differently for my siblings and me than she did for herself and my dad. Obviously we had baby food as babies. I guess she did tend to make us things like grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches during the day when we were really young. I think she tried out things like tacos with us in mind. But I still eat that stuff now, on occasion.

What I miss from my parents' house is pork roll and scrapple. My European hubby won't eat them so I rarely have them.

Chinook salmon caught early AM in the Pacific Ocean by my dad and myself, then driven the hour to our house, where we would have a great big party and grill a bunch of freshly caught salmon on the barbecue. It was really fun.

My dad, grandmother and ex-husband were the best cooks. I miss their cooking frequently. There was also a restaurant in town - Godfather’s pizza - that had the most mouthwatering pizza ever.

My mom's homemade sushi (California roll with eel)
My dad's homemade meatloaf
My dad's homemade hamburgers (with grilled onions mashed in with the meat)
My mom and dad's Irish Dinner (corned beef and cabbage) - served only on St. Patrick's Day
My mom's soyu-tomago (soy sauce mixed in with scrambled eggs and then served with rice and kimchee)

(I probably hated the dishes above when I was really tiny, but I grew to like them later, and now I really miss them.)

I also miss...

mac and cheese with ketchup (I could probably make them now, lol)
