their's the question.

hhow do you feel about technology?

if a new upgrade comes out for your computer/ phone/ what ever else, do you get it?. or do you work with what you have

do you even have apple products and smart phones etc?

do you use facebook/ twitter?

how much in to technology are you

me... not much at all.

i have my computer, and i can email and post on message boards.

anything else, i need step by step instructions, and i don't get any upgrades unless i'm forced in to it (and their's no other choice)

i don't use anything apple, or any type of smart phone or any apps

what about you

When I saw the subject line my first thought was we would be up a creek without some technology. Then I read the post.

Me? My cell phone is a basic flip phone. I use it to make and receive phone calls. My work cell has texting capability which is nice for work. No Apple products of any kind. Oh yeah, I have a WiFi capable tablet I can use at work. I HATE the dam thing! The screen is way too tiny for my poor old eyes and the thing has so many glitches it's unbelievable!

I don't use Facebook or Twitter. I belong to Linkin for professional reasons, but don't belong to any other social media sites. I prefer to keep my on line activity as private as possible. I realize that there's no such thing as complete privacy on line.

I don't have cable or satellite TV. Plain ole over the air broadcast is fine with me.

My internet connection is an aircard I plug into my PC.

I know I sound like a Luddite, but I'm not. I appreciate the technology that makes my life easier. It makes my car function. Computers make simiple work of things that used to be a major pain in the but. Anyone remember manual typewriters? Anyone remember the complete pain of typing with carbon paper to make extra copies? Anyone remember the real pain of correcting typos on those carbon copies??? I just don't need to be plugged into electronics all the time. I haven't been at PC for a couple of days because by the time I got home from work I'd had my fill of using a computer. I spent my evenings reading real, paper books!

I would love to be a technophile, but I can't afford to be so ...

I have a Galaxy S4 smart phone. Love it.

I would never buy an iPhone or Apple product because they cost way too much for often times less. For example, iPhone just got group texting which has been in Android for years. They brag about their camera, but the LG and the GS6 Edge have better cameras.

I don't do any social media. And Facebook is the Devil. Nuff said.

I would like to have a nice Surface for my daily stuff, my cell phone for cell phone stuff and a high-powered desktop.

I have everything Apple. I have an impact, iPhone and an iPad. I keep up to date on all upgrades. I'm wanting the iWatch but haven't convinced myself of my need. I love all my gadgets and am probably close to being an addict when it comes to technology. Also, one of my favorite subjects. what are your thoughts on technology?

I'm also a user of Facebook and Twitter.

I don't care much for phones or social networking. I upgrade my computer when necessary GPU, CPU, motherboard, processor, ram. The only stuff that I feel like getting when they come out are graphics cards but I hold out for new architectures and better prices. I've had my gtx 660 for about two years and its almost time to upgrade!! I dislike and don't have apple products.

My laptop is quiet a few years old. I am sticking to windows 7 too, so boo hoo to 'windos10'. I have a blackberry that is near on 6 years old. I don't think I like tec stuff all that much to be honest. Too much tec like all those modern cars is mad in my book. I do not like the idea off computers driving my motor full stop. My car by the way is almost as old as I am. O yes and I have my eye on getting a motor bike for my 40 birthday next year. Not a tec savvy bike either but a simple Royal Enfield.

My first computer was Windows, and I didn't like it from the start. Too many options, too complicated, and it nagged me or do the update without me consenting. So I became pretty good at removing all the crap from Windows, I got it down to like 2-300 mb. Eventually, I moved onto Linux, free stuff y'know. More freedom, philosophy or whatever, just feels right for me. I just like to know ins an outs of things, this suits me fine, so I'm no apple guy although I admit they are pretty!

Technology is fine.

Technology (from Greek τέχνη, techne, "art, skill, cunning of hand")

We benefit a lot from computers, but I have fondness for older tech without too much computerization. Internal combustion engine, or a simple pop-up toasters without a microchip. Try to make them with your hands! and some of us know somebody already tried them and wrote a book about it.

I'm just appreciative of these technology that I see everywhere in everything and I sometimes think about the persons behind it, GENIOUSES and their intelligences. Their eccentricities too. I only know so little...

Technology can be evil too, in simple terms, they make us slaves.

Lastly, I just like to say, owning, commanding 'your tech' won't make u smart, even a little bit. Say a shoe repair guy or swordsmith who knows about thier tools, who uses their hands and brains, in my eyes, they are also ... tech. sry, I don't know how to say what I wanna say here.

Thanks for this thread, technologies are meant to be used, to create, to enrich,,o so many things and I'm glad that you brought this up.

ETA: The internet has been good for me, although I can think of few bumps that I'm not gonna mention here..

The best part about it is that you find awesome ppl. One of my recent favorite guy is called, Mr.Mafioso. I have to follow up on this guy and see if I can learn more from him. Does anyone have random favorite people on the internet?

I don't think I could live without technology. I'm on my laptop 24/7 just on the internet. The internet is so fascinating! Sooo much to look at, so little time... I have a smartphone at the moment, and the only reason why I have it is so I can stay on the internet, mostly to check facebook, emails, and to look up businesses on the go. It has saved me many a trip to know when a business is open and to call them before hand to see if they have a product I need. In fact, I rarely ever use my phone for calls and texting, as strange as that sounds.

My laptop, my phone, and my ipod are really the three things I mostly use technology wise. I'm not big on TV or tablets.

I had to upgrade my computer since I work at home, but I just got a little cheap acer desktop for the time being. My laptop is 6 years old but I still use it for convenience when I don't feel like sitting at my desk. I did buy an ipod just because public transportation is miserable without it. My phone is a Samsung gs4 that I'm ready to upgrade since I've had it for over two years and it is starting to act funny. And last but not least, I recently bought a tablet to read my texts for school when on the train home. So I guess you could say I'm pretty in to technology.

I was into technology before PC's & laptop's even existed. Had my Accounting Informations/Computerscience degree back in 1978 when the college computer filled a whole building. My very first job was working on the credit card system for Citi Corp back in 1978. My H I married in 1975 was also a computer science major & we actually got one of the very first IBM PC's & the first company I worked for got us a good deal on the first color computer which was a CompuColor. But without internet back in those days, there wasn't a whole lot to do with the computers & software was just being developed.

Ok, for my second job, I actually worked on a military version of the smart phone......it had GPS & data link capability but no voice....I worked on the data link end of that program. That unit was about the size of a 15 pound tablet (picture it about 1 1/2 inches thick with a stick lithium battery that weighed about 5 pounds). After that project I went onto working on data links that were programmed into the shelters that were used in the gulf war......worked on a radar system & then on an emulator computer for the air force.

I had a cell phone from the time cell phones came out & was so thrilled when I learned how to use the internet back in 2003.....aerospace & work all together for the people who had been in aerospace started to collapse in 1994 & that was when my dark ages started without my career....I was lost but had no other outlet for my tecnhical ability from any training that I had. Went to UCLA I did some graphic design but really didn't settle into anything. Finances were tight & by the time I actually left my H in 2007, I had a flip phone that could call & text on but I refused to text because of the cost. All my friends were getting smart phones & me, the techie was still in the dark ages. It was funny because they had no idea how to use their phones & they had no idea how to wire up things in their home....so that was always something I was good at. I didnt get my smart phone until a few years ago....I love it....I needed a new camera & decided to get a good smart phone that had a high quality camera rather than buying one separately.

My laptop I bought before leaving my H has since broken unable to be fixed. I bought a desk top that my H wanted & I took with me so that's what I am still working on....I really don't like the new windows personally though I'm having problems with plug-in & computer crashes constantly now & trying to figure out how to solve that problem.

I enjoy being on FB....it keeps me in contact with the few friends that I had in Calif & it also keeps me in touch with my horse trainer who is still boarding my horse as I haven't been able to afford to bring her here yet.

My internet here is high tech because we have NO cable & I have no land line.....they developed a system that is transmitted out from the main facility out to their transmitters that are located on the water towers & then transmitted out & we have antennas on our homes that pick up the signal & then it's wired through the house & to the computer & Wifi. I keep my wifi going even though I don't have my laptop because I use it for my phone so I don't have to used up my packet data limits & try to use wifi as much as possible when I can find it out & away from my house.....but hey satellite is great when needed.

I loved using my GPS driving the 2100 miles from where I lived to my new little farm & didn't get lost once. The connector on that broke...but I LOVE my phone GPS also....not much I don't use on the smart phone.....but it's definitely android because I needed cheap & GOOD quality.

Interesting because I haven't had a TV in all the 8 years I've lived here & I don't miss it one bit though I have to admit, when I am around a TV, I will watch it.

There are a lot of things with technology that I would like to do but really am not into spending the time to learn any longer...like web page design even though there are NOW wonderful tools out there so you don't have to program it like in the past....I just haven't taken the time to bother to learn. Think it would be fun because I have a lot of design creativity that I enjoy doing & that would be an artistic release of technology.....who knows maybe some day if I ever have enough time.....if everything around my farm would quit breaking....I might take the time to learn.

I do my own repairs around the farm as much as possible & YouTube has been a wonderful asset.....I have found out how to repair everything I need to repair from my clogged toilet to my broken kitchen sink & even replacing my EGR valve on my Dodge Ram 1500 truck.......maybe it's part of my technology mind set, but I don't think there is much that I can't so unless I can't afford the tools or it takes too much muscle that I don't have. I actually took my truck to the mechanic's before replacing my EGR valve because I couldn't get the 2 bottom bolts loose. They asked me if I wanted them to change the EGR valve for me but I told them I wanted the challenge.

The programming I did wasn't software....it was actually programming the hardware & the debugging was setting up scopes to see what the hardware was actually doing at the specific times.....it was more engineering then software programming & think I learned then that there wasn't anything I couldn't do & the things that were normally things that guys used to do....women could do just as well.....so I was always a part of the guys teams & enjoyed sharing the technical talks when we were out socializing.

[QUOTE=shattered sanity;4587292]their's the question.

hhow do you feel about technology?

if a new upgrade comes out for your computer/ phone/ what ever else, do you get it?. or do you work with what you have

do you even have apple products and smart phones etc?

do you use facebook/ twitter?

how much in to technology are you

===========

Technology has its positives and negatives.

I work with what I have, its an economics/marketing lesson as far as needing to be first in line, plus all the bugs with the newest greatest thing

I have an ipod, that's about it for apple, it's outdated at this point. Meh, whatever about it. My smartphone/Android serves many purposes, such as typing here. I use the stretch feature if I go online.

I don't have cable nor satellite. I did need a digital converter for local stations. Homelife is better for it. I have internet. My kids do have things. Just because I'm a single mom it doesn't mean that their father disappeared and he's not on the anti child support bandwagon, so he sees to it, within reason..

Facebook is so so for me. I have Twitter and Instagram. Meh. I set up my Twitter to look like a tailormade newspaper

I use cnet as a consumer reports if in the market for new stuff...

I work in IT and am on the computor all day long. I love my iphone. I use it for a map, look up all kinds of information when I need it. I rarely use my laptop anymore for personal use. I quit going on facebook. I read books on my phone, but live to also read a paperback!

I am a teacher, so I have to be on technology constantly. Our district contracts with Apple, so I have a Macbook Pro and iPad paid for by the district (Yeah!). All of our students have iPads and/or access to MacBook Airs, so I have to stay up on the technology and apps and I have found really successful ways to incorporate technology into the learning of my classroom.

As far as phones go, I'm really low-tech. I have no desire or need for a smartphone since I have good access to other devices for internet. With 4 people in the family, we are all about saving money, so we all have simple phones that make calls and text, and our monthly cellphone bill is only $30.

I use FB all the time. Not a big Twitter fan; I have an account but hardly ever use it even to read other people's tweets; I don't think I've ever posted one myself and have no desire to. Useless as far as I'm concerned.

The problem with too much technology is that people are forgetting how to communicate. I see people at a restaurant and no one is talking to each other; everyone is on their device. I see it in my classroom when students have trouble with discussions or working on something simply using their brain. They want the technology to do it for them and it has affected their ability to attend to other personally and to their work critically. So we work a great deal on technology etiquette and leave those devices out of reach unless they are specifically needed for an assignment.

It important to find a balance in one's life with technology. Limit your use of it and remember there are actual relationships and activities that don't rely on it.

I quite like tech, and it does not have to be the type we are used to and take for granted.

That said, I do not care for operating systems that do everything behind your back. I have an old iPhone (a handmedown, would never buy one) and while it has some nifty stuff, it does things without any OK from me. I mean, some apps you can upgrade when you want, some will call home at any moment and you have zero control over it.

That is how people want it to be. They want others to control them so they will not have to think. For me that is not good progress.

As for a computer I use whatever crap people give me when they upgrade. Since most what I do does not take a large amount of resources I'm pretty much fine with everything.

I do not use Facebook or anything like that. I do not volunteer information about me like that. If someone wants to stalk me (person or country) they will have to work a little harder than that.

I know I'm piggybacking on other people's overconsumption of electronics, but still I cannot understand the fascination people have with modern TV's, modern computers, the latest iPhone etc. Especially when it is built to break.

Technology is everything. suppose if I talk about the latest technology that is artificial intelligence technology is very demanding nowadays. with this technology, a human can do anything (which is possible). but in the future will this technology will be good for humans??
every technology have some advantage and disadvantage. same with other technologies also like data science and machine learning...

DVDs have always creeped me out a bit. How do they get a movie on a disc? Then transfer it to a TV? Kinda seems like voodoo to me. Not that I really believe in voodoo.

Technology often unreliable and causes more issues than it solves. Do love the internet for the capability of performing online research since love learning and liking things up on credible websites.

To me, technology is sometimes baffling. Take for example our TV remote which looks such a complicated thing that I always hand it to my daughter.

For me, technology works if it is simple to understand, easy to use and is appealing to the eye. Then I'll give technology 10/10
